"A bit" is not close to be the same.

Do you know the difference between those two strategies?
"Double-team" is an additional "feature" to any deffence strategy that defines that when a specific player gets the ball, another will come and help.

"Box-&-1" means that 4 are playing zone-deffence and the last player is defending a specific player.
When that player will get the ball a double-team may not be executed.

to any defence, do you know it?

The thing is, what you are implemting it for? What does it bring new to the game, or should? The box and one, works like a man to man defence(~same ratings) with more pressure on an outside or inside star here, which result in less pressure on the others.

If you just like the name, we could have probadly 5 strategies, who are played like motion here just with another label on it.

Actually "double team" is not a defensive scheme but a tactical tool anyways. The option of double-teaming an (chosen) opponent´s player once he touches the ball in a scoring position would be an interesting additional choice, I´m just not sure people would be happy with the outcome, as it may lead to plenty "unwanted" side effects and people would run around crying because it´s impelented "in a wrong way".

Double-teaming, just like full court press and 2-3 and such, are actually more or less "surprise" options for short to medium stretches, and I think adding THIS option would really lead to some good results.

So like your base defense will be played for 3 quartes in the game, and you can choose one "special" D which will be used for only one quarter (of your choice, so 1,2,3,4 or OT), and while the opponent coach usually makes adjustment during the game, he cannot adopt to that.

Under those circumstances, Double Team (and Full Court Press) and such make alot more sense.

That is exactly what I've tried to explain to him [Apparently not slow enough...]
I'm going to open a thread that defines it.

i can read ;) I even understand you, but playing double team, when a star player comes in possesion is an option you choose out of a man to man defence. In a Zone it works pretty bad, there you can collapse when the ball comes to the low post maybe even only when Dwigth H. comes to the ball. But a double team he asked for, what special pressure for single player, you normally not make extra out of a Zone since the transition of defence the other had to make need to much time.

Seelenjaeger said, that you play it such a short stretch, and he mean every tactic beside man to man during a game, with few exception this is right. but i think this simplification, is quite good for the game.

but he didn't say, that double team is an extra, you combine with defence strategy.

Bad or not (not...) it is just a fact that it is used by real BB teams.
Besides that, it is completely wrong claim.
It is useful in zone as well as in 1-1 defence.

i watch in fact some basketball, and i don't see it out of pratical reason. You might say the same about box and 1 which is a pretty rare defense in real, but at least it don't open the door that much like this transition you are planning.
