I like D'Antoni, but it is a bad fit for the Lakers. The Lakers are too old to benefit from D'Antoni's offense, and they dont have the perimeter shooters either. D'antoni's offense also doesnt highlight Howards talent and increases the chance he leaves the Lakers after this season. This just feels like a PR choice more than a basketball choice. Good coach, bad fit.

Blows my mind that people think that SSOL is D'Antoni's ONLY offensive scheme.
Why on earth do you think that *you* (I use that generically - not at 'you' alone, as a lot of people are saying this) can look at a team, and correctly recognise that the Lakers are not a bolt-up-the-floor team offensively, and not think that Mike D'Antoni is capable of making the same assessment and adjusting?

"Bad fit"? Historically - MORE than the SSOL, he runs pick n' rolls. Which would be a very good fit with the Lakers.
And "PR choice"? Umm... dude, if it were a PR choice they would have gone with Phil.

You should have said you didnt want any response other than agreement. My bad

Hilarious that you think a guy with 11 championships is the PR choice and the guy who never could make it to the finals is the non PR choice. I am guessing it is based on false information regarding PJ's 'demands', which no one can actually find a source for this information and which all parties deny ever happened.

They'll do well, he'll have all sorts of fun getting Nash and Gasol to link up, and I don't think a Lakers team with Kobe and Howard is going to be bad defensively. More importantly the players and coach have good relationships and mutual respect and that just wasn't there with Mike Brown.

Really? Did I hurt your feelings? My bad.

...

1. "PR" stands for "Public Relations". Wouldn't the "PR choice" be selecting the guy whose name is being chanted for in the game played the day before?
2. Which offensive scheme would be a better fit for this particular roster, the triangle or a system predicated on pick n' rolls? And if you take Phil for 2 years (that's assuming he remains vested for that period of time), then you are looking for a new coach right at the time you are deciding to rebuild your roster around Dwight Howard. Nuh-uh. No thanks.

What... forums are only for agreements?
Far too many people on here want to say something, and have everyone agree. How boring.

well I don't think D' Antoni is the guy for the job.....maybe I exaggerated when I said "Rather had Phil and D' Antoni and Mike both"

But still, Phil would've been better and I bet with D Antoni they will be at the championship, but where they'd lose to the Heat.
