magiker's spending spree has put him in a different orbit. and his big guys still have some training to do. yikes.

on the other hand, california is trying to dump $220,000 in salary, or, more accurately, exchange that 220 for maybe half that.

this revenue stuff is capping a number of teams, unless they are prepared for a lot of red ink. i know i am at the salary cap for my stadium and other revenues. flash master said last season it could be up or out for his boys. UK is at or above $600,000 in salary. ATL is at my level. and even the Bruins are going to have learn to shop at Goodwill to get their players.

i guess i'm saying we got us a bunch of team shuffling yet to do.

let's see: a week's worth of reshuffling and let us see where we stand . . .

Bruins -- they have begun the adjustment to life (and revenues) in DII, but i don't sense panic, which means a team that probably has deep pockets as well as an experienced manager. former NBBA teams are sort of the default favorites, i have found. going forward, this is probably the case.

UK -- has a $166,000 PG for sale. if he gets the asking price (just short of $2 million), then he has a pile of cash to add to a very good team. if he does not get that price, then he has a very good team with a stratospheric $620,000 in salary obligations every week.

Rdkin -- very formidable frontline; has proven staying power at this level.

ATL -- as with UK, a tremendous starting 5 and a weaker bench.

Super T-Rex -- still wheelin' and dealin', but judging from the players he has for sale, i would say he has a good eye for talent. if these players are his castoffs, then his keepers will be quite competitive. a team to watch.

Ron Swanson, the Leapers, Thunder Gods, the Whalers -- looks like they're saving money.

Window Lickers -- a very good team; would have been in the conference finals if he had been at full strength.

Flash Mashers -- back on square one.

The King and I -- seven strong players; a pattern i see among several of the best teams in the league.

California -- how many teams have not one, but two players from Barbados? he's got a million and a half, maybe two, maybe more, to play with.

Lion Pride -- like California, a new team with some money to spend.

Senecaville -- still getting organized.

good luck to one and all.

Looks like i am talking to myself, but my analyst tells me this is good therapy. our new arrivals have been making some moves, and perhaps there is a bit more clarity:

first, a thought for Senecaville: he is hoping to move more than $300,000 off his payroll. but if he has mispriced his players, then he has to foot that salary bill come Monday morning. i don't know if there is anything else happening this weekend that is quite so dramatic.

for me, Super T-Rex has officially moved into the realm of Scary Teams. i am partial to teams that have depth, and he fits that bill. the players he has moved were well-rounded, skilled players, another bias of mine. but what floored me were the revenues from his first home game, over $400,000. this is well above what i thought the league's revenue cap was (i figured around $360,000), and positions him to make some money (i figure $50,000 a week plus Cup winnings) even while carrying a hefty payroll (offhand, i figure around $430,000 or so, once that PG goes). in addition, that PG may go eventually go for 5, 6, 700,000 or more, giving Dino boy even more cash to play with. this week will be revealing, for T-Rex tackles ATL and Ron Swanson as well as a DIII Cup game. Regardless of the outcome this week, i expect T-Rex to finish in the top 5 in the Big 8.

i thought Lion Pride's pickup, a very capable big man, was very good. given a different set of circumstances, like refs who did not think breathing by the visiting team was a foul, then his squad would have whipped mine.

The King and I has a USA NT PG, talent at the other positions, and Kraig Starks, an immensely talented player filling the Juwan Howard role on the team, looking nice in his Brooks Brothers suit down at the end of the bench, high-fiving Walter when he comes out of the game. i tackle this squad at home this week, and i don't expect to win.

and the Bruins have begun to make their adjustment to DII, hoping to move Boudreaux and his $222,222 salary. (i imagine the market for such a player is very small, but competitive.) even subtracting such a player leaves a squad i can only envy -- but, as is the story with a number of teams in this league, once you get past the first six or so top players, it gets thin very quickly. when i see a number of good managers doing the same thing, maybe i should take notes.

best of luck to one and all.

You sure are right about T-rex, two things I picked up from him when he was kicking my butt in III. 16, depth and well rounded defensive players. I am expecting him to be in the top 2 in big 8. But we are all chasing the bruins. I just need to decide if I can survive relegation and save some cash as well or just accept relegation.

You did a lot of research to my team and thank you for your kind words.
Actually I made a wrong move so my team might get into trouble for a very long term.
Besides, as the effects of the modified game engine has not been fully evaluated, I am not sure if my team is on the correct route. At least, I can not see any significant improvement of the block in my last game. (1 block happened when I used 2-3? That's too bad......)

I think the thing that everybody is forgetting is that the increase in shot blocking effectiveness does not necessarily manifest itself purely in an increase in blocks. The real benefit from having a team with good shot blocking will show itself the same way a team with good outside/inside defense stats will - more missed shots. The fact that more or less shots are being contested is a better indicator and the blocks stat is something I see similar to the steal stat. Not every player gets buckets of steals every game, but people still crank OD as high as they can get it.

That's true. Did something happen here? (Footpath called "T-rex effect" in III 16...... hahaha)
I never see any DII have such few posts. But the number is still better than those shown in the last season.

Yeah, I was surprised that the "Ginger Giant" sold right before the economic update and injured. Hope he enjoys playing in China!

Tonight's action has all sorts of parallels between the two conferences -- kinda weird:

The most obvious, i suppose, is that each conferences's current sixth and seventh-place teams face off tonight.
Senecaville at Footpath Leapers-- Seneca is still bleeding cash, that's the bad news. the good news is those fine players are available for tonight's game. Footpath has to be kept from sharp objects and needs to be escorted across bridges -- dark thoughts of ending it all frequently cross his mind.

Thunder Gods at Tucumcari -- Tucumcari opened the season beating Lion Pride, which is impressive, even if it was the unimproved version of the Pride. Thunder Gods have a modestly tough Cup game (which means the opponent may try his hardest to win) and a week from hell next week -- the Bruins and TKI. (Wait -- that was my week this week!) Gods succumb to the desert Whalers.

Then there are the battles between 2nd and 3rd.
T-Rex at Ron Swanson -- the rising star plays a carefully managed squad. i think the coaches favor the same sort of player; it's just that T-Rex has more of them. i am guessing T-Rex wins by a margin similar to their victory over ATL.

The King and I at Eugene -- another rapidly improving team against a stand-pat squad. i juggled my lineups so that i could have something in the Cup game and really hoped to win this one. but i think TKI is just too good. i expect TKI to win in low double-digits before an empty house, as fans give up on the team that got clobbered by the Bruins.

the games for the first place teams are interesting, as well.
Kentucky hosts Rdkin -- both of these squads are good, very good. i don't see Kentucky losing two games in a week, but stranger things have happened.

Bruins at Window Lickers -- the post-Boudreaux era has begun. with Boudreaux, we are all children playing a giant; without Boudreaux, who knows? tonight's game will indicate whether anyone else has a chance at stopping the Bruins this season. Window Lickers are a good team, but have had the misfortune to face TKI on the road and lose by two to Lion Pride. i suppose i expect the Bruins to win, but if the margin is in the low teens or lower, then i think that means the Bruins can be challenged.

ATL will build up its enthusiasm against the Flash Mashers, while the Pride will take care of the Knights. Those 8th place holes are getting deeper.

Good luck to one and all.

Yeah, I bought Boudreaux kind of as an experiment to see how really high Inside Shooting would do against the top competition. He always had really high FG%...but not out of this world numbers. But he kind of grew on me, so I kept him around for a while. Kind of expensive for this division though...
