Is it total skill level or just skill level in their main skills?
I thought salary only has a sizeable increase when a player's main skill upgrade (Reb for PF/C, Dr for G)

Well, what I meant was total skills, since I prefer players to have good secondaries. Secondaries don't count towards salary but do use potential, so when looking for a trainee, I'd look at total skill points, which disregards stamina and free throws.

The total matters more than whether the actual skills are primary or secondary, since you might want to train both.

Also, you might see a 6'11 PG, or a 6'1 C. These can often be good players to pick up as their position indicates their secondaries are so high, their actual salary is higher at what I would describe as the wrong position. When you train them at the "correct" position for their height they often don't need much secondary training.

I think your evaluation is pretty spot on, salary doesn't mean a thing in itself. Sometimes it's used to simplify a players value to those that don't understand the game and the value of secondaries very well, but you seem to have good enough knowledge to disregard that.
