The game manual says,
Each season, all teams not already participating in the BuzzerBeater's Best tournament across the world compete in a collection of international tournaments known as BuzzerBeater Madness, a supplemental to the B3 tournament. Divided into separate tournament divisions based on their world rankings, teams compete for both fame, fortune and, in case of the top tier winner, a spot in the next season's B3 tournament!
And later, a new rule was introduced: only allow teams to be in the same tier if they are within one division level of each other. (309373.318)

Honestly that doesn't explain why in my tier (10) there are a lot of teams ranked 6k/7k vs us people ranked 12k/13k.
Same story in tier 11, people ranked 7k/8k vs 13k/14k, and probably this happens also in other tiers.
If we look at the roster value, there's (almost) all the time a big difference between teams with such a difference in world rank.
Am I missing something?

So what exacly determines which BBM tier you land in each season?

Also I don't understand why you are in tier 12 with rank 8953, and I'm in tier 10 with rank 12285. Your roster is also roughly 40k more expensive than mine.
I understand I'm in III so I have to face Div.IV and not below, but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of Div.IV teams that are my rank or so.

It seems that those teams ranked 12k/13k are in division III, and the 6k/7k ones are in division IV.
I guess this situation is caused by the grouping algorithm.

Currently, active teams only go down to Division IV.
If the grouping includes both Division III and Division IV teams, it should be possible to rank them purely based on world rank.
Looks like there’s still room for improvement.
