Team training (Stamina, Form, and Free Throws) doesn't depend on playing in games. Stamina training is very fast, most players increase a level per week.

Training of skills is based on where a player actually plays in games, not on his nominal position. His play at the position depends on his actual skills, and not his nominal position.

I suspect that the generation of player works like this: Roll a die to determine the player's position. Roll a die to determine his height, which is a function of the position. So for example, centers might average 6'10 or 6'11, but there is a possibility that they are 6'4 or 7'4. And similarly for other skills. So a player who was designated a center, might be unlucky and not have much of the skills needed to be a center, but might have some skills that let him play at forward or even guard.

With only 5 players, and a relatively small court, basketball player roles are somewhat fluid. So even if you position a player at center, he may take a few 3-point shots.

If you play a player at SF for around 48 minutes, but his position is listed a PG, and you train your SF/PF/C and center that week, will he have the possibility to pop because he played at SF, or is he excluded because he is listed as a PG?

He will be a SF for game and training purposes.

The only place where he will be a "PG" is on the roster when you sort by position, or on the transfer list search.
