also if your player is outplayed by the other player playing on that position he will get more fouls (not 100% sure about this one)

i would say that it only matters, when only he is outplayed ...

Especially in the NT matches there are often huge difference in the qulity of game play, but the foul numbers are quite noral no ton of ouls of the weak team and no "clean" game from the strong team.

So good defence just avoids fouls at one player, because his opponent don't shoot that much and at shooting fouls often his matchup make the foul.
