Agreed - it is imperative for NT competitiveness that such players are saved and trained.

I think it's a very good idea. Long term planning, I like that.

Sounds good to me. Just remember that it takes something like 7 weeks before a team goes inactive. And that's assuming that the guy never logs back on.

I wouldn't stop at just 1 youth with amazing potential... there are likely others which should be saved during the season. A lot of the other smaller countries do this once they are eliminated from contention... and it's not just the NT that can do it, it's also the U-21 that can rescue youths too (if they also get eliminated from the Championships).

But we can't do it all season long because of enthusiasm.

You can when the games don't matter... and after our match against Italy, we won't have any meaningful games left unless you think the consolation tournament is important.

If there are no meaningful games after Italy, then team enthusiasm shouldn't matter and it would allow you to save players on a weekly basis as you would be able to drop them from the team after saving them from inactive teams.

Saving 18/19 year olds with superstar potential or higher, are more valuable to Canadian community than the NT's team enthusiasm or results in exhibition games.

This season, the onus should fall on the NT manager to save the youths once you are out of contention for the World Championships... and next season, the onus should fall on the U-21 manager to save the youths should they fail to qualify for the U-21 World Championships.

Just curious, what kind of play are you talking about here? Like a center with over 7K salary? It really depends on how good he is and what we seem to need (which i think is big men). Although i'm sure, as many people have already discussed, there is not much of a downside other then if the manager logs back on. What is the players salary??
