I believe one thing you should consider is that when deviating from base offense, the game engine will let certain positions take on modified roles.
I am not sure this is true, per se.
I need to clarify this. It seems there are two theories on how the game engine works:
First theory (Man to man with bonus and deficit)All tactic is based off default offense and defense (Base offense and man-to-man). Depending on which tactic u use there will be bonus to certain skills for certain players while there will also be reduction in skills for certain players.
Offense and defense is still base offense and man to man after factoring in the tactic bonus or deficit.
Second theory (zoning)Depending on what tactic you use your role of your players will change.
With this, it seems the middle 3 positions (SG, SF and PF) will shift depending on what tactics is used. For example, SF when playing look inside he will double as a PF. And when playing motion or run and gun, he will double as a SG. Same goes for defense.
My current understanding is that zoning is what actually happens in real life but the game engine due to the complexity involved is based on man to man with bonus and deficit factored in.
Would appreciate if anyone can help to give some inputs in this
