Why would you do that rather than just having a SG that's a good defender. If your shooting guard can't defend the perimeter he doesn't have much utility.

A "respectable" outside defense guard CAN defend on the perimeter in D4, which was the original question of the poster. If he's supported by other guards by higher skills and positioned well in the defense, you'll do fine in D4. You might even have your league's top defense, like I do. In this case, the guy's my top scorer, so I cut him a little slack. (6820817)

As I said before, you can't have all the skills you want in your early seasons.

Respectable outside defense can guard point guards in D4.

That said, it is far from ideal. If the dude was a point guard, it'd be a reasonable concession, considering point guards are very expensive.

But for a mono-skilled jump shooter who can't pass or rebound. It's absurd.

I think this depends on the league...Last season I won my DIV league with 15 and 13 OD. And it took every bit of that great defense to get it done. I played in a very tough DIV league at the time, and it wasn't the norm...but still, all it takes is one high scoring team with a balanced attack, and 7 OD won't be enough. Thats great that its enough for your league...but that definitely doesn't hold true for all DIV leagues.

Thank you.

too many people come in here saying you need this and that without taking any consideration to the level of the person asking the question. You don't need 9 or 10 defense playing in many of the lower leagues in win and if you want to play with the BBB boys, you better bring a lot of better defenders to the game than that. All you need to be is a little bit better than your current competition so you can move up. Nothing more.

Go look at my last stint in D4. I believe it was season 12? Own3D and Wahoowa were both in my conference that season and I went 22-0. go ahead and tell me how I did it. I had the best defense in the league and far less offense, but one convincingly. All three of us are playoff teams in D3 and Own3D actually made it to D2, but is relegating back down. We were all defensive minded squads. Defense is far more important than offense.

Looks like you got completely dominated by a team that had far superior offense to you....

When was this? The team I lost to in the playoffs this season is 15 points better than me for sure. He is better offensively AND defensively this season. I went FCP because I had very little chance and rolled the dice. Backfired....I don't ever play so I said WTH? Did he beat me with his offense? lol no. go look at that teams scores...he plays a low scoring brand of basketball usually and he will win our league with DEFENSE. Thanks for using a team that ultimately backs up my defensive stance...but again you didn't really look very hard. Anybody can score in bunches against an FCP. If I go Motion/M2M That game is played much lower...much much lower.

Go look at my last season in D4. You go look at my games and my defense and watch how it dominated. Own3d and Wahoowa will both agree like I said.
