From the AP wire:

NBA guidelines limit the amount of money Minnesota could have contributed to Rubio's buyout at $500,000. Kahn said a package of endorsement deals and sponsorships had helped make the NBA deal attractive enough for Rubio and Joventut to enter into an agreement on Saturday.

"They could only put half a million into it, and I think that the deal with Minnesota had too many obstacles," Rubio said.

I think this is to tough. ACB and Euroleague is not as far as you might think from NBA....specially from certain teams.
He has plenty of time to show his skills....he might a fraud or a good player...in 5years we can have a better idea.

I remember a really young Milicic "facing the best" ending up completely lost. I remember Pau Gasol being much tough mentally fighting for a position (Memphis was quite a goo place to obtain an starter spot), ending up as a franchise player......and many, many US that seemed to be stars....just smashed on a wall.

We can just give opinions, make forecasts...but I think people might respect a decision, an important one with 19 yo + looser franchise (europeans hate playing with looser teams)

This is a common belief outside of the USA. I expect it is about as accurate as saying US Futbol is not as far from Top Euroleague as you might think.

Nobody like to play for a loser, even in the USA! hehe

Especially in Basketball, where there are only 12 players per team, a team's ability to win is based on its parts. So if you are a great player, you should believe that the team will stop losing so much with your arrival.

Two years in Europe=more fundamentals for him
When he'll arrive in NBA,he will shock many american people who still think that only in Usa born good basketball players, except for some atipical player

What are you even talking about.

When have you ever heard an American say that good players are only born in America?

I'm not American and even I think that statement was ridiculous.

When the Lakers won the Championship, I was sporting my Gasol jersey, not my Kobe one.

I think National Pride tends to skew people's beliefs from all countries. Where someone is born has very little to do with the end product of skills. Talent, Drive, and Opportunity are what determines skill, not birthplace.

chill mate,

its still a 5 million matter that rubio would be paying from his own pockets. if you were a young kid playing basketball. i dont think its 100% correct to pay your way to play basketball.

as much as anyone, i do believe wants to play in the nba but not all players get the ooportunity of a lifetime.

some players who are stars in europe or any other league are asked to play in the nba but got cheaper contracts look at toronto raptors small forward.

i think we all do things to make a living, some are contended to have enoug just to eat and have a place to sleep while some get to have a chance to have 5 sports cars and a beautiful wife while at the back of it has a collection of what we may say as a pron flick ready for your desires.

thats why i applaud steve nash, as much as a nba championship is set as a goal for nba teams. i mean who would remember all that after 3 generations from now. nash sign the best deal he goes home happy and his future is way more secure.

wilt 100 points never really have much impact on us compare to the airness of micheal jordan. yeah thats 100 points but what about it? could you reminiscing the moment? as much to me its just a collector card for you to see.

as for rubio staying . . . good move kid! now get yourself better in those 2 years

I can never tell if someone is actually responding to me or if the response just comes to me because I was the last one to post.
