If Windies beat me I will be happy for him, I don't think I deserve to stay up using this tactic.

Mind you it's the same tactic that's gotten nearly every (or is it every) team that I've seen promote to the ABBL, since entering this league.

Have a look at the ABBL also, the talk about who's going to win the relegation battle is more exciting than the actual title itself! It's all about who's buying up to save the day at the last minute.

Can't beat em, join em!

Probably wouldn't have won. I was ready to be relegated to be honest.

yer sorry about that, im in the middle of player transition at the moment, so managing game shape and minutes and the fact that im still trying to keep a good stead for of enthusiasm for the playoffs, meant that i had TIE against MMM.

Would he have won? possibly. those guys you mentioned, Groppo onyl has respectable GS at the mo, and i just dont have a good C anymore, so yer. its debateably.. it was a MMM home game. I probably would have had to have Normaled to have won, which, this late in the season, wouldnt have happened.

Still..... BB can throw some funny things your way, so im sure you will have some fun with Team Lordy in the relgation series. :) Whoop him! haha.

Not every. I would have to check a bit more carefully but I don't think I really did it. Season 17 when I won my core at the start of the season was:

Guards: Mu, Oliver, Vallo, Barton and Kent.
SF: Rober
PF: big hole a collection of bad Cs playing PF.
C: Sherwin.

The only big change for the whole season was I sold Kent (didn't need 5 good guards) and bought Juan Carlos Gamboa so I finally had a PF. I admit it was late in the season and he only played three regular season games.

Season 18 I tanked the season so sold off Juan Carlos Gamboa, Rober, Mu and most of my team so that I was down to the salary floor. Late that tanking season I made the two next big additions picking up Sperbert and Lawrance.

Season 19 I won division II again. At the start of that season my core was:

Guards: Oliver, Vallo, Barton, Kumar and Hołówka.
SF: Sperbert
PF: Lawrance
C: Sherwin

During the season I made two changes, I basically traded Hołówka ($50k SG) for Lluís Cardil ($60k SG who had better matched skills to my teams needs and strategies). Then I admit right at the end I did rent Ander Oriol a $90k C (cost me $300k to buy) for the playoffs just to give me some depth, so that an injury to a key wouldn't see me spending another season in division II. At the time his quote was something like that he was insurance. I was 20/21 at the time and felt that unless I had an injury I should win but I just wanted that extra buffer so I could survive an injury.

So I respectfully claim not every.

So you did tank!

I think its very hard to compete without a round of tanking first to build up the funds needed. Even in div 3 that was the approach I needed to take. Tank 1 season, build up funds, then go balls to the wall next season. To win div 3, I needed to have a roster that was much more expensive then what my team could sustain long term, and that strategy needed a pile of money to fund it.

Until BB fix the issue with tanking rosters, this will remain the most efficient way of putting together a winning season. The only other approach I can see is building an incredibly balanced team with great synergy and good value for money.

I certainly did tank!

I was scared I would repeat my season 12 fiasco. I started in season 10 in IV.7, went undefeated and was promoted to III.6. I won III.6 in season 11 and went to II.2. It is a long story but I tried hard to stay up and failed, so was sent down to division III.11 having made no money and not trained properly the whole season.

I am not aware of anyone ever who has gone 4, 3, 2 in their first three seasons and never been relegated.

I was silly, I should have seen the writing on the wall in season 12 and tanked the season. There wasn't even a salary floor back then. I could have done the difficult training and been much better off for it.

Lesson learned.

So in season 18 I found myself with the youngest ABBL team ever (since me Slam ! and the Melbourne Goldfish have been younger) an aging roster, no real stars, very little money (promoted with a large debt) and a very poor situation with the Kynlala Knights in the Big 8 planning to tank meaning the 6th and 7th Big 8 teams could take it easy all season and then just buy up to slaughter the Great 8 teams in the relegation games. I was determined not to repeat my failure of season 12 so made my plan. Tank season 18. Buy young, outstanding but cost effective players. Win division II in season 19 and then be able to compete not just survive when I returned to the ABBL in season 20.

I have made a few really stupid mistakes along the way but overall the plan is looking good.

I have never ever outright tanked in all my seasons of BB. I actually felt like I was half tanking this season after selling several of my players to kick things off... Funny how things play out.

Yoda I did state "nearly" and I did have you in mind at the time I posted. I couldn't remember for sure if you'd done any blatant late season buy ins to buy the title. That being said, I think your's is the only one that I can remember, since being in this league. Bravo sir!
