I just think I don't want to believe that he did it after all those late nights watching those 7 tours...if he was doped up when he won those tours then how was he still good enough for 3rd when he came back from retirement?? It just boggles the mind.

I am with ya Tremell, I have watched the tours and read his books.
It's highly likely that he (like most others) took drugs during that era. But still there is no hard proof of it, just some hearsay for x-riders. I still think he is one of the greatest athletes of all time.

Yeah I mean you never want to worship or look up to a potential cheat but I don't know what good can be gained out of it coming out now. About the top 5 in all those tour wins are now implicated in doping so it just cheapens the sport for the 'most likely' clean cyclists we are seeing now.

Its a witch hunt to be sure.. and i have heard nothing but rumours about Lance since well b4 he won his first tour..
The sport is going in the right direction for sure, i dont think any other sport is doing as much to catch drug cheats as cycling.. however, it is the same old adage.. the cheaters are usually 2 steps ahead of those trying to catch them
Once USADA presents the data to UCI it will all come out... I think out of everyone Lance has more to lose than anyone from admitting to it.. I follow cycling pretty closely, closer than any other sport, and if even 1% of what you hear and read is true, then this guy has a lot to answer for.. If not for his own doping, but systematically encouraging those around him to do so, and supplying them with the know how and the drugs with which to do it..
Same as Contador.. i have no doubt he doped.. since his positive in 2010 tour, he has cracked on nearly every mountain stage he has competed in, whereas in the past he blew past the opposition riders like he was on a motor scooter.
Maybe everone else doped.. but that doesnt make it right.... if the UCI does strip them, who knows what will happen cause i think most of the guys that finished behind him in the past, are also proven dopers :(
For mine, i still to this day hate Alexander Vnokourov.. I remember watching him in the 07 tour, he was down and out and kept on attacking and showing his strength.. then bang, comes out with a positive... nearly turned me off the sport for good!

Yeah I've always followed the cycling too hookz because my grandparents and a majority or my aunties and uncles are Dutch and that's their passion. Such a tough sport- mental, physical and no matter where you see a bike race it's usually amazing scenery.
I remember my immense disappointment when Vino did that too. You feel so proud to watch what u think is a sportsman pushing himself to the limit and breaking others like he was doing that tour, then bang, gone. That jubilation of watching it turns to sadness that it was a fake pretty quick.
Really well written piece man, enjoyed your insight.

It is hard for me, Kingfish just seems to lack charisma. So maybe on second thoughts it does suit you.
