Well done Iwen. Thanks for your service the last 2 seasons. While we not of got the results we were looking for you have set up a system to ensure we will do better in the future. The squad had a few holes each season but we now seem to have depth and options at each position over the coming seasons. I'm sure whoever takes on the role we have success which is partly due to your work and I hope you remain an active person is helping your replacement and our community by providing advice and help moving forward.

Would love to thank everybody for their opinions, advice and help the last two seasons.

I have decided not to run for the next U21 term, however, the next manager who takes over will have a golden generation to manage.

You and I have had our differences this last season but I do acknowledge the legacy that you have left by setting up systems and sharing your knowledge around your assistant coaches.

Your knowledge of team structures and training skills is legendary.

Many of the really great Australian players who appear on the transfer market have at some stage spent time in your training, including my very own Quincy Riviera

I sincerely hope that you reconsider your decision not to continue on as coach of the Under 21s

No offence to the other great coaches we have had but you are the greatest Aussie U21 coach of all time. We didn't get the result we hoped for due to losing that game against Esti in overtime this season but it was still a darn impressive run and we couldn't have been closer to a historic result. Season 21 in the World Championships we went 1 and 4, this season 7 and 2 just getting knocked out in that final heartbreaker. Well done on a fabulous job.

A question to Iwen: The last several seasons when we were knocked out we then removed all the 21 year old players and gave the 20s a bit of a run and had some tinkers with their lineups to see how they went. Given that there is probably time for 3-4 scrimmages before the next coach can take over will you be doing the same this season?

A question to everyone: Do you have what it takes to step up and be the next coach of the Australian U21 team? We have a proud tradition and a number of very experienced managers that can assist you with the transition. I assume anyone that is interested can also probably get a few weeks mentoring from Iwen as well although getting the job is far from guaranteed. All the old guard is gone. We need some new blood. Your country needs you!

Who are the likely candidates? I'm a little out of the loop nowadays, kind of assumed iwen would do it for the next 80 years.

Can't think of anyone right away. Mickyster was interested in the senior role so may be possible. I gather Sid Vicious has been taking an interest. There are always Fanny, Latino and Silo...

I cant imagine myself taking the gig on as I have a bit on my plate in real life.

Am still hoping that Iwen will reconsider and continue to coach on.

That would be a issue but to be honest the amount of work to take on this role vs the small amount of points would be a dumb investment to do it for that reason.

I did South Korea U21 a number of seasons ago (before achievements existed, just for the experience) and even for a quite small country it takes up time ... and they had no chance of winning games as they had very few managers and most of them had no idea.

A country like Australia with quality players because of the number of quality managers has an expectation of getting results and this certainly takes many hours a week on training advice, checking minutes/gameshape, scouting opponent, etc. Not to mention the start of the season finding all the players, setting up assistant coaching structure, scouting the new draftees!!!

So for anyone considering running make sure you understand the hours involved otherwise you'll have one pissed off Aussie BB community looking to CT you every chance they get ;)

P.S. @Sid, I wont be running, no time for the Bogans let alone U21

That should be motivation to be running the U21. What if someone gets the gig and purposely does not add your players to the squad or does not play them in the games just because they got bitter about you beating them by 1 point in triple OT in a league game.

If someone is the type of person to get bitter over that, I wouldnt vote them in as coach :p.

Just feels more satisfying when someone else deems my players good enough to be on the team, rather than adding them myself.
