Anyone who mentions "Hitch" as a movie that's even "great" loses all credibility.
Hitch is a mediocre movie that really has no staying power or any other claim to greatness.
What makes Hitch a movie in the same class as Shawshank Redemption, Empire Strikes Back, Lawrence of Arabia, American Beauty, Annie Hall, etc.?
Some of the other choices are laughable (The Notebook? Really? What are we, teenaged girls?), but Hitch is absolutely pathetic.
2005 alone had 20 movies better than Hitch (Sin City, Batman Begins, Walk the Line, Cinderella Man, Serenity, The World's Fastest Indian, Thank you for Smoking, Revenge of the Sith, Munich, Brokeback Mountain, Good Night and Good Luck, The Constant Gardener, A History of Violence, Capote, Green Street Hooligans, Transamerica, Hustle & Flow, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Tsotsi, Wedding Crashers)
That's just 2005...
