He is indeed, and I love his game. Still, there's an awfully long way to go from inspiration to legend, and a Sabonis definitely was both.

again, i can't agree more, but somehow i feel some pessimistic vibration from you :) maybe that's because you're not from Lithuania :D i think, with his determination, his character and the potential... he'll be a legend here in Lithuania. maybe bigger than Sabonis. and we forget one more piece of a puzzle. Motiejūnas. D-Mo is as talented as is Jonas. D-Mo is more of a power forward. i think in 5-6 years we might see a very intresting battles USA vs Lithuania :) at least i hope so :)

Nah. It's just that I'm usually unwilling to give people the laurels in advance, as we say in German ;) He has the potential, that's for sure. But Sabonis was really a great player and possibly underrated like few others. But it takes a single unlucky injury and his career would be cut short, or he might fail to reach his limit. We simply can't know in advance.

yeah. Sabonis history was sad. if it wasn't for USSR i woudn't hesitate to call him best center ever. he was drafted to nba, and USSR denied his transfer :( then injuries came... still Sabonis had character and proved, he can be one of the best. actually he was in best rookies team nba :) Val doesn't have limits. no one will suspend him from nba :) all those raptors pick 5 haters are really wrong. and cavs i think already are sorry. :D

Well, I would hesitate there ;) But that's just because there were so many great centers in the past - Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq... were all better than Sabonis, I'd say. But it's not a large difference, and for me Sabonis is clearly in the second tier of the greatest Centers ever, and probably the best European Center so far. (The Gasol brothers might surpass him some time during their careers, but I don't see other contenders for that title yet).
And we'll see where Valanciunas' ceiling is. I just doubt he has none; everybody ultimately has ;)

yes they were great. but, Shaq had some terrible nights playing against Trail Blaizers :) yes, he's a great player, not "was". i love Shaq, he brought so much to nba :) but Sabonis had him, not impressive, but shaq had a nightmare game against him, i can't remember the particular one :)

here's the impression of what Lithuania expect from Val. he might be not that good passer, but he showed he can. he might be not that good shooter, but again he showed he can. i bet, we have a better version of Sabonis with Val :P

i doubt that val could be better then sabonis in his european days pre injury, in this shape Sabonis was one of the greatest center(maybe not so great like russel and chamberlain, but he could face shaq in my eyes).

For val i am a doubter, i think he could be a solid till good NBA player but i don't think he got a franchise player.

Is it my impression or Lithuanian player don't like play in NBA?

For some time now don't have player a lot how in other seasons.

Is Ilgauskas playing yet in Lithuanian national team?

I remember somethings about Arvydas Sabonis! He was a great center same, I'm fan for everything in Lithuania, and I'd like know about some sports of there!
