MVP summary

Been a while since I caught up, hooray for holidays. Well there are some superstars of the league in the top three spots, three homegrown Aussie legends Shaun McArthur, Kye "Duffman" Duffill and Xie Guanzheng fighting for the top spot.

Then close behind is what Chelsea spent an entire season of tanking to buy scoring machine SF Marco Sperbert and Taylor Waterhouse the player Da Fat Boy Slim spent their ABBL savings on. Next is another Aussie legend Wazza Kennerley of Koopasaurus and the other half of the Seagulls tanking season spending Gary Lawrance.

Then it is the dominant big men Grgur "Fat Girl" Fatur, Liang Huaizheng and Pitama Tau however the first two are now gone.

With an outside chance is sweet guard Gary Howorth of Black Label Society, do anything freak Gerd Jahe of Chumunga, reliable Karp Kalachev of Geelong Vipers and another long time Fishbowl star Joel Vulcan from the JW City Bulls.

There are two games to go and all of these players have a chance to both get the glory of winning the prestigious Ky Smeltz Memorial MVP Award and of possibly winning their manager a prize.

Two weeks to go, everything is up to date. Fun times ahead.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 10

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Geelong Vipers 85 - 69 (42320132)

For some reason my game always finishes last and thus is the last to be reviewed. Apparently not always. Facing the leagues top scorer (Sperbert), top rebounder (Lawrance) and top passer (Melmeth) was never going to be easy for the Vipers however with prominent inside scoring and defence they made things interesting. However Sperberts relentless outside scoring and Lawrance's great passing (8 assists) got the Seagulls over the line.

3 Marko Sperbert Chelsea Seagulls 40 PTS. Never seen a shot he doesn't like, Sperbert actually had one assist!

2 Gary Lawrance Chelsea Seagulls 17 PTS 17 REB 8 AST. It isn't often that PFs get so close to a triple double but this was a classic Lawrance performance with the only blemish being the teriffic effort by his man Rosales.

1 Sam Rosales Geelong Vipers 20 PTS 14 REB. Great battle with Lawrance and an impressive 10/14 from the field.

Chumunga vs. Melbourne Goldfish 93 - 97 (42320129)

Dominating in league but constantly cuming (sic) up short in the PL yet again Chumunga player brilliantly but just couldn't get the W. The MVPs here are tricky. The Goldfish won and Xie was brilliant but Jahe and Cubby were outstanding too. Very hard to split these three but in the end I will have to go with the winner.

3 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 18 PTS 10 REB 5 AST 3 STE. The Master Chef cooked up a new way to get himself votes, this time by rebounding including a key offensive board down the strech. How does the SG nearly double the C in boards?

2 Gerd Jahe Chumunga 30 PTS 7 REB 4 AST. This incredible versitile player was all over this game and he and Cubby did all they could to get their team the W.

1 Nigel Cubby Chumunga 28 PTS 19 REB. Ofek didn't have a bad game but just couldn't slow down Cubby who simply overpowered him.

Whompas Donkeys vs. Pancakes with Jam and Cream 83 - 95 (42320133)

A great effort by the Donkeys keeping it close with ABBL team Pancakes who haven't impressed since parting with NT star Liang Huaizheng. The Pancakes motion offence couldn't find a consistent scorer and it was only from the free throw line that they were able to score enough points to win.

3 Patrick Neal Pancakes with Jam and Cream 17 PTS 12 REB. Only Pancake that could consistently score.

2 Medartas Tvarijanavicius Whompas Donkeys 17 PTS 17 REB. Consistent socrer and boards.

1 Dewey Bowers Whompas Donkeys 24 PTS. More important held Zero to 5/19 shooting.

Koopasaurus vs. JW City Bulls 90 - 44 (42320131)

With both teams experimenting with a Princeton offence but Koop electing to try the doubly dangerous 1-3-1 defence he was able to achieve a wondrous Perimeter Defence rating and keep JW to 16/66 FGs. Blowout!

3 Matt Mottram Koopasaurus 23 PTS. Snake Eyes can now be yours!

2 Wazza Kennerley Koopasaurus 16 PTS Wazza!

1 Spencer Moylan Koopasaurus 14/6/6.

Black Label Society vs. Bell Park SuperCats 91 - 71 (42320130)

BLS has been unbeatable this season although had a fright when their experiment against the Goldfish led to OT. No mucking around here against Bell Park, just LI/M2M all the way. Having finally found a replacement for Fatur in Paweł Hetmańczyk they are looking rock solid to take the Fishbowl East championship.

3 Yavar Zarrinche Black Label Society 34 PTS 15 REB. Inside dominator.

2 Paweł Hetmańczyk Black Label Society 28 PTS 14 REB. The new Fat Girl says Grrrr.

1 Pitama Tau Bell Park SuperCats 16 PTS 15 REB. Shot well and by far their best.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 11 FINAL

Black Label Society vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 93 - 90 (42320135)

What a great game. The unbeatable BLS was again taken down to the wire by a sensational DFBS team led by the new NT sensation Kye Duffman Duffill and the Turkish Terror Emre Durmaz Kündem. In the end Shaun McArthur gave his team a great chance and Gary Howorth just wouldn't let his team loose.

3 Shaun McArthur Black Label Society 36 PTS. Fouled out as usual but was unstoppable while on the court.

2 Emre Durmaz Kündem Da Fat Boy Slim 27 PTS 13/18 FGS. Outshone Duffman with great scoring and a teriffic defensive job.

1 Kye Duffill Da Fat Boy Slim 20 PTS 20 REB. Not as efficient as the Terror but a 20-20 game is hard to ignore.

Koopasaurus vs. Melbourne Goldfish 79 - 67 (42320136)

It was a big game for both teams and both teams got smart with their tactics. Keep threw out the 1-3-1 zone but the Goldfish had gone with an unusial base offence. The Goldfish dominated the boards but didn't get the ball inside enough to their big men while their guards wasted their chances. Both teams lost key players with Wazza maybe teir best player going down for Koop and Ofek their best big man going down for the Goldfish.

3 Stefano Arcuato Koopasaurus Much maligned addition came good when it mattered and without Ofek to slow him had it easy.

2 Matt Mottram Koopasaurus Snake Eyes was on target and contributed to a wondrous OD rating.

1 Halim bin Mohamed Melbourne Goldfish This wont be popular with Xie needing 1 vote to be the season MVP but Xie hit just 6/25, while Halim hit 2/3 of his. Most tellingly while the Goldfish lost by 12 they were +10 while Halim was on the court!

Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Geelong Vipers 95 - 80 (42320139)

Short rosters all around and fairly even stats in shooting rebounds and assists leave a massive 22-6 free throw imbalance as the reason the Pancakes too this one.

3 Patrick Neal Pancakes with Jam and Cream 19 REB and got to the line at will made NEal the difference maker.

2 Kostas Ntolkas Pancakes with Jam and Cream Top scored with 30 and when you are on the Hellas NT you must be special.

1 Sam Rosales Geelong Vipers Fought hard but fouled out leaving his team with little firepower.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 11 FINAL Part 2

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Bell Park SuperCats 76 - 88 (42320137)

The Seagulls hoped, but K-Fed and friends just had too much defence and kept the 'Gulls to an anemic 28/75.

3 Kamilis Fedorcukas Bell Park SuperCats 26 PTS on 11/12 shooting was only flawed by fouling out in 26 minutes.

2 Marko Sperbert Chelsea Seagulls The one Seagull that could hit a basket. High score in the game by a mile, hitting 43 PTS at close to 50% wow.

1 Gian Piero Della Corte Bell Park SuperCats 19 PTS is just part of the story, add 5 AST 5 REB and 3 STE and you get the picture.

Possum Chasers vs. Chumunga 70 - 101 (42320134)

Possum Chasers just really weren't in the hunt this season.

3 Gerd Jahe Chumunga The man that tremell hopes thkes his team to the ABBL, amazing!

2 Ivan Zlatanov Chumunga 24 PTS. Only 21, scary!

1 Rafał Gierkowski Chumunga Another chumunga young gun, this time just 23.

Whompas Donkeys vs. JW City Bulls 75 - 94 (42320138)

Another blowout with JW way too strong inside.

3 Damir Toš JW City Bulls 12/12 FGS holy cow!

2 Medartas Tvarijanavicius Whompas Donkeys The only Donkey on target, could have been MVP in a closer game, 35 PTS, 17 REB and hit 2/3 of his FGS!

Well we have a three way tie for the first time ever with Kye "Duffman" Duffill, Marco Sperbert, and Shaun McArthur all tied on 17 and the redoubatable Xie Guanzheng just one back on 16. Brilliant players all their managers will be proud that their players have done so well. Well done to the three MVPs!
