When can a loss be a herald for good things to come?

Apparently during the all star week "where amazing happens" it can.

Both the Kynlala Knights and Hopelessly Addicted lost. The Knights out tanked the Seagulls and HA lost by just 4 to Bell Park SuperCats who not only hold the top sopt in the Big 8 but look at this:

Bell Park SuperCats put more into this game than hopelessly addicted.

That is right the top team needed more effort to squeak a 4 point win against lowly HA. Ok it was at Sid's arena, maybe the Cats didn't have their perfect lineup getting killed at PG giving Adilson Buckmaster 48 minutes of training but still what a sign for Sid. Even more omonous for his rivals what was his next move?

12/26/2011 - hopelessly addicted has just acquired Bernabé Pandiani for $ 1 008 250.

Bernabé Pandiani (13285257)
Center
Owner: hopelessly addicted
Weekly salary: $ 121 266
Age: 24
Height: 7'1" / 216 cm
Potential: superstar
Game Shape: respectable

That is a great price for such a young center assuming he has good skills. So this could spell trouble for Pancakes and Hadders chasing the safety of 5th and maybe even Billy Hoyle needs to watch out. Once the cup is over for Hadders he will be firing, C-Cat is a brilliant manager and HA is the second best accountant in Aussie BB, he can make the magic numbers work and isn't afraid to take risks.

So this would be bad enough news for Datzilla and Zazz now knowing that they have to face probably a much tougher opponent in the relegation series, but there is more. Can anyone hear some rumblings in the basement? Can you smell what Iwen is cooking?

Looks like having doscovered what a total disaster the draft is Iwen has had a bit of a change of direction. Perhaps it was the shame of losing to the Seagulls and winning the first pick in what is probably the worst ABBL draft ever (I have scouted every single 18 year old and almost all 19 year olds spending several seasons of draft points and found...a disaster!) that has woken the sleeping giant.

12/25/2011 - Kynlala Knights has just acquired Andelko Kosac for $ 3 941 700.

12/25/2011 - Kynlala Knights has just acquired Vlas Golovnin for $ 800 000.

Have a quick look at his roster now. Is an 8-0 home run and the chance to avoid relegation now possible?

Wow the ABBL hasn't been this exciting all season.

WA IS A DUMP is still monstering everyone but once the cup is over we will probably see something different from Direwolf and Whitebeard. Even Monkeybiz, Trikster and Datzilla must look at the possibility of finishing in 6th and having to face a full strength Pancakes, Hadders or Addicted with some fear.

With the exceptions of WA and Seagulls at the extremes now anyone can probably beat anyone. Fun times.

calm down yoda, I think you had a little to much christmas cheer last night. Talking about Iwen going 8-0? Lets look at his starting 5 as it stands now :
PG - 66k
SG - 183k
SF - 34k
PF - 151k
C - 3k?

Certainly no longer a fully tanking roster, but certainly not an 8-0 roster ...... but lets see what he does over the next 2 weeks, certainly seems to be aiming for relegation series now. A C will probably appear this next week or next.

Oh I agree with what he has he can't do it. But pop onto the TL, search for Australian players with salaries >40,000 and you will see some of his bids, that may make you change your mind. Ok 8-0 probably is the plum pudding talking but 6-2 could put him above Zazz or DFBS if they aren't careful.

Given that Iwen sold his previous squad when they were a realistic chance of winning the championship, one should not totally be surprised if Iwen retained his spot in the ABBL after demonstrating he was the best tanker

12/25/2011 - Kynlala Knights has just acquired Andelko Kosac for $ 3 941 700.

This player is an absolute beauty one of the best if not best I have ever seen.

Regarding HAs latest acquisition, if the markets stuffed and you cant sell players, then its a great time to buy. Pandiani is no Kosac, but assuming his salary doesnt rise too much next season, he was a great boxing day sale bargain.

HA has rolled the dice and is hopeful of competing 2 seasons in a row in the ABBL, but is no certainty to do so, unless he can find a rent a beast to compliment the squad

Pancakes will skip a game clear of HA after the next round.

Assuming Iwen does go down to div 2, he will be back with avengence in season 20.

HA is the second best accountant in Aussie BB

Quite a statement given that HA went within hours of bankruptcy once and could have had the distinction of having gone bankrupt on the same day as having won promotion to the ABBL.

Just one quick question, how much do I receive in the end of season bonus if HA is able to avoid relegation?

You receive a pat on the back. Now say to yourself, is that worth the trouble?

These are my predictions
BIG 8
6. Datzilla
7. Iwen
8. Zazz

GREAT 8
6. HA
7. Hadders
8. Seagulls

If anybody had any hindsight, then the 5th spot in the Great 8 is now more valuable then ever before. Cos relegation series without HCA against Datzilla is a lost cause, and a series against Iwen with or without HCA is also a lost cause when Iwen spends all that money to stay alive in the ABBL.

so...
PG - 66k
SG - 183k
SF - 34k
PF - 151k
C - 170k???

you still need some good backups to be able to go 8-0 the rest of the way.

Very interesting to see how the likes of Hadders, Zazz, BHB, Pancakes and Datzilla react to the moves of HA and inparticluar Iwen.

Cos relegation series without HCA against Datzilla is a lost cause,

Dont know about this, Zazz would have a bigger stash of cash tucked away than anyone.

Datzilla may be a tad reliant on the Fatboy.

One injury to any one of the key players of the relegation series bound teams, could spell demotion.

Has got interesting.

Will the seagulls now make a run for it now that they have a taste of victory?

I wouldn't discount zazz as she has a pile of cash hidden in her vaults somewhere which she can use to buy up when needed. It'll be interesting to see what her reaction to the purchases of Iwen would be.

Also, as it stands, Iwen needs to win 5 of the remaining 8 games to overtake zazz which in itself is quite a challenging task even with that roster he just bought up. Sure he might have 3 good players but he still needs to surround them with backups unless he intends to train GS every week and give up his training plan for the rest of the season.

Maybe HA and Hadders buying up now is showing their hand a bit too early? Zazz and DFBS have a few more weeks to milk cash and also will know what sort of players they need to buy to beat HA and Hadders in the relegation series.
