of course the question was legitimate, but the answer hardly impacts the issue at hand.

It's something I wanted to know.

first, thanks for the long awaited opinion :)

my doubts about garbage time system are general and not only about the exceptional games like this one. but if you red the thread about it in suggestions forum, you already heard mine and others objections, so i will not repeat them here (until someone asks me to).

i just find unreal to hope for my adversary to score when i'm leading by 21 at the end of 3rd, because i know that if he does 4th quarter will be much less risky for me :)

Garbage time is something that we've believed pretty strongly in, and I would expect to see many complaints about star players being injured while ahead 50 points in the 4th quarter if we took it out.

just a quick note: optional garbage time would work fine with this kind of problems, let players decide if they wanna risk a loss/small win or a injury.

Thanks for your reply.

Nobody is suggesting removing garbage time completely. You will agree however that there are numerous ways to make this rule a bit more "flexible" (as some others have already suggested), or at least make the AI react a bit more promptly to what is going on on the court.

I love garbage and thrash metal too

In order to avoid to lose game due to garbage time, try to buy some good players as substitutes ;)

i think the main problem with the garbage time as it works now is the behaviour of the coach once the leadership margin starts to decrease
he should be much faster to react, calling timeouts if necessary

Perhaps you have a crappy coach? Maybe you have a Randy Wittman or Isiah Thomas?

I always careful select my subs and my rotation and what my coach is allowed to do. If you coach more, your androidian doppelganger will coach less.

i always give as much freedom as possible to the coach
however can that influence the way he handles garbage time? if i can't give him any instruction about garbage time how he's supposed to follow them?

Looking at the game in question, garbage time was not so much the culprit behind the loss. The eventual losing team was up by 10 points with 33 seconds left when the starting shooting guard decided over the next 33 seconds to: 1) miss 4 free throws; 2) allow 2 three-pointers; 3) foul the opposing shooting guard on a three-point attempt and 4) miss the game winning shot at the buzzer. Really just one of those one in a million games ...
