Cool, but you missed the most exciting games, me vs lordy & his 2 minute noodles. This is more thrilling than even my finals last season, this time I am against 1 of you elite teams, wow wow wow. I looked through every season ever, never been a 13-9 team facing demotion before, lucky me to be the first :P

I think you have a decent chance of beating my team and if I lose a guy to injury it's pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Good luck.

Hey ViOlator great write up.

I am certainly feeling pretty fortunate to be in the position I am given how hard most of the Great 8 have been tanking this season :)

I do feel for the Windies and hope they can come up with the win given if I was in the Big 8 I would probably be in that spot myself.

Hopefully injuries don't decide the playoffs for anyone - it seems a lot of teams (apart from Snuffies I guess) have a fair bit of a drop off from the starting 5 so an injury to a key player would basically put them out out of the running.

It is certainly nice to get such an easy run in my first season of DIV 2 but I don't expect my team to get past the second round of the playoffs. You never know I guess so we will see what happens.

Good luck to everyone.

I agree that the battle for relegation is going to be a beauty but I choose not to get sucked into the battle for the bottom. For me it's all about playoffs and teams striving for glory.

It seems a bit funny to me that people get more excited about who avoids relegation, rather than who gets promoted. The ABBL is the classic case of this, as those teams are all about the trampoline effect. Doing enough to save as much as possible without relegating so they can consolidate a spot up top for a season or two.

Very unlucky for Windies to have such a good record and then come up against Lordy, who had it easy and was able to save enough to buy in some relegation savers. Gonna be some good match ups, might even have to pull up too sore for footy training tomorrow night! lol

Sorry to be butting into your forums but I will explain the ABBL phenonom. It doesn't affect everyone as obviously last season Koop spent a fortune gunning for gold but when you win division II what do you get?

$1,000,000 cash bonus.
$2-300,000 extra a week for the entire season ofset by having to spend $1-200,000 more a week to compete.
Shiny trophy.
Great fan survey the following season.

When you win the ABBL you only get the bottom two. Therefore teams are willing to go in hard to try and win a division II or III because the cash rewards will well make up for it. I ended last season in debt before promoting and hopelessly addicted was famously on his last benkruptcy warning when he won but the extra money fixes all of that. When you win the ABBL there is no extra money, just a debt you need to somehow fix. This is why lots of the "old timers" don't believe in risking too much to win.

Good news is on the horizon however. We have II.3s own Aussie Pride and Chelsea Seagulls being 2nd in the Big 8 and Great 8 this season as well as CROCKERS and I don't think any of us are known for being too conservative. I suspect that within a couple of seasons all of us will have had a serious crack at it.

Valid points there Yoda, which raises the question of why isn't there a cash reward for the ABBL winner? If that is all it would take to drive more teams to go hard at a title, then throw in the cash I say. It's always a risk because only one team can win and if three teams from each conference give it a fair crack, then it would be a more lively comp.

I just think it's funny that the majority of the talk in the ABBL is not who's gonna win the title but who's gonna avoid relegation. Something just doesn't seem right about that and I'm not necessarily blaming the contestants. You can't deny it doesn't quite add up and even a little bit like Olympic badminton players...

Winner gets B3 invite, which, has a small cash incentive for wins. ($20k or smoething isnt it?)
still... better than a poke in the eye with a blunt rocket surgery.
