I think the thing with buying a young trainee, is that u arent just buying his young potential, your buying his older 'greatness' as well.

eg: in those two examples above, ur buying an untrained untrouched trainee and paying a premium, purely for potential. Its also the easiest time to train a player. Compare that to a 20 year old who has had 2 full seasons of training, his 'pathway' as i would call it has already been determined.
people pay a premium for a player who is 'untouched' in training... because he could become anything they want. buying a 20 year old already trained, means ur buying someone elses work/mistakes/pathway.
IM not saying I agree with that logic, id buy a 20 year old trainee, who has been trained correctly, but its harder to determine whether or not a 20 year old has had his first 2 seasons of training full maximised, so majority of purcahsers dont go for them.

thats my theory anyways.... what they sell for isnt their true 'value'.... its their 'market' value. and the above is how the market perceives trainees.

in other news... what...the...fudge is goin on with injuries this season!?!? just had my new SG purchase last a whole 13 minutes on Tuesday night before going down with ANOTHER 2 week injury. thats my 4th player this season alone to go down with a 2 week injury. Not including cup games, Ive lost a total of 4 SG start's, 4 backup PF and 4 backup C games due to injury and now another 4 starting SF games due to injury so far this season and it isnt even All-star break yet!

The fact is the market price has utterly crashed for 99% of players but there is still 1% that are very expensive. Well trained forwards (SF or PF) with a great balance of skills and a high TSP still sell for a fortune. They are usually a good investment though because of the way they can create mismatches and shut down their opponents. The other player that has kept their value is 18 year old high potential players. There is no doubt that all those Aussie HoF players you, Iwen and Zazz spent millions on last season will not be worth anything close to what you paid for them ever again unless they become a world class forward after many many seasons of difficult training.

I was trying to bet an 18 year old myself this season and bookmarked all of them and bid on lots but always missed out until I was forced to settle for Dexter.

The fact that he was much cheaper than the 18 year olds despite having seasons of training already invested and already capable of playin for me without turning games into an auto-loss is a huge bonus. In two seasons the 18 year old would still be a liability, in two seasons Dexter will be a very very dangerous man hopefully giveing me an all-Aussie starting team as long as I can get him enough inside training to play SF.

Less of a risk.

It isn't what I wanted, I wanted a guy I could make into an U21 star, but we don't always get what we want, I was forced to settle for someone that was a much, much better investment.

yer transfer market is such a funny thing. actually during my recent purchase i realised an extent to which the Free agency is affecting the transfer market.

my recent purcahse - Salary - $115k per week (or whatever it is)..... Free agency starting price - $1,150,000
The guys is 30... There were 34 year old free agents listed at starting price of $750k which is JUST STUPID.

I bought my guy for $215k.... ok so i nabbed a bargain, but when i was looking there were SOOOOOOOO many other players for sale who were a free agent and listed as the price above, OR, other users, who have seen this free agency price and thought 'oh thats what the market must be for this guy, ill list him at that'.
and in all honesty, it makes it VERY difficult to find a player for a more reasonable price, because people are still paying the inflated prices simply because its so hard and the choice is limited.

There are no downpops at age 32 except for stamina, the earliest is age 33.

Agree a well trained 20 or 21 year old is a lot better investment than an 18 year old.

I doubt if its possible to avoid relegation from the ABBL if you were playing an 18 year old for 48 minutes in each game
