less than 500k for a 130k triple-double big man.
probably one of the best purchases I have seen in the short time I have played this game.

I agree. That team has just sucked and choked for as long as I've been up here (and even before then!). LOL.
He still has to get by DFC and TWSS. No easy task.

To be fair, he put up those crazy numbers while on a fifth division Italian team (how on earth did they afford him??), but yeah you know the market is fucked up when you can buy a $128k Center for under $500k.

Rocket.science made mention of this at inception of the season so here it is...my statistical analysis. Some caveats first, I do not take into account "thrown" games or anything else. These calculations are reached solely using empirical data collected by the game so some teams may appear stronger than they are and others that tanked a few league games for cup will be stronger than they show on paper. Changing personnel, tactics, and so on are also not looked at. That said...enjoy!

The most important things in the game are scoring and keeping the other guy from scoring. Here are the ranks:
Offense
1) That's What She Said
2) petersburg
3) Ginger Balls
4) Digging for Change
5) Astral weeks
6) Reston Thumpers
7) Clan MacLeod
8) Rocket Science
9) Red Fort
10) Meridian Hill McMornings
11) ATL The Hawks
12) New York Chunks
13) East Siders
14) Chaos Lords
15) Scrap Heap Low Posters
16) Seaslugs

Defense:
1) Digging for Change
2) petersburg
3) Rocket Science
4) Ginger Balls
5) That's What She Said
6) Astral Weeks
7) East Siders
8) Chaos Lords
9) Reston Thumpers
10) Red Fort
11) ATL The Hawks
12) Meridian Hill McMornings
13) Clan MacLeod
14) Scrap heap Low Posters
15) New York Chunks
16) Seaslugs
These are derived ranks based on offensive and defensive efficiencies...they are adjusted by possessions since some teams average more than others and for steals/turnovers and so on. Basically without adjusting for schedule strength and opponent lineups this is pretty good.

Team that plays the slowest: Digging for Change average fewer possessions than anyone.
Fastest? Seaslugs...but since they are practically a bot...East Siders. In general, the Big 8 plays a "faster" game with more possessions per side.

Best thieves: Digging for Change, Rocket Science, Astral Weeks
So not only does Digging for Change play slow...they steal the rock from you to really limit possessions.

Best rebounding teams: Having taken notice that having the most rebounds really isn't a complete picture...I developed a way to approximate what % of rebounds people are getting and judging rebounds based on that.
Top rebounding teams Big 8: Meridian Hill McMornings, That's What She Said, Reston Thumpers
Rebounds by numbers Big 8: That's What She Said, East Siders, Reston Thumpers...McMornings are 5th in total and 1st in Offensive rebounds. Seaslugs are 2nd in Offensive rebounds by number. Mainly since they are such lousy shots. So why reward a team like that in something like this?

Great 8 Top rebounders:
petersburg, Chaos Lords(surprised me...thought this was a weak point of the team), Scrap Heap/Ginger Balls.

Weakest Rebounding teams: East Siders, Red Fort, Seaslugs(see what I mean), Clan MacLeod, Astral weeks.

Best shooting teams: That's What She Said, Astral Weeks, Ginger Balls, petersburg
Best 3pt shooting: Digging for Change, Red Fort, Ginger Balls
Best 2pt Shooting...don't underestimate this...most teams that do well here are pretty high in standings...exceptions are 3pt bombing teams
That's What She Said, Astral Weeks, Clan MacLeod

Teams that take the most 3pt shots: Seaslugs, East Siders, Digging for Change(still only hit 31%), Red Fort

Percentage of shots assisted(very funny one since some really good teams and really bad scoring teams will end up on these lists)
Astral Weeks and Rocket Science are the only teams past 60% and thats a huge percentage Following them are Ginger Balls and Petersburg at 57.x% No one tops Meridian Hill McMornings in Big 8 with 52.58%...Big 8 teams are either worse at defense significantly as a league(easier to take 1on1) or Big 8 teams are stingy on Offense.

Any surprises? Requests? Hopefully you can glean something useful...honestly, I'd post it to Google docs if I didn't need to clean it up first, but that takes time...more time anyways.

Wow, that's some in-depth analysis. Very interesting read, surprised how high my team ranked in some of the categories since none of my players are amongst the league leaders.

Kzarik - a star for you, my friend! I am going to try to stay in the same league as you as much as possible. Makes the game so much more fun.

That is some pretty interesting analysis - I have been trying to figure out how to set my lineup to get back at Astral, so this comes in mighty handy. :) :P

Good that so many teams are still in the cup hunt - this next game is probably it for me. It will be interesting to see how these rankings change as teams begin to put their best lineups.

Also, I am curious - do you base it off the overall team performance from each match, or do you import each players' performance and do a bottom-up from that level?

I base the analysis off of the overall team performance which has some flaws to it. Putting out 3rd best lineup against a strong team while on the road, the AI tends to sub in lesser players with a big lead, the losing team tends to fire up 3pt shots very frequently in the 4th...these things may lead away from a team's strong point and lend itself to skewing the data.

With as many data points as we have, it still tends to only skew the data mildly. Plus, lets be honest, most of the time the way that enthusiasm affects games and how we respond to good teams/home court advantage...the overall data bias is towards the ends. In other words, the best teams are probably not quite as good as the stats show and the worst teams probably aren't as bad, but the middle couple or 3 teams are what the data says they are.

I have the means...its sloppy so I don't do it...to get the specific data for every game. I suspect that I'd be able to give an even better analysis if I gathered that data. I broke down my team last season by game and one interesting thing came out of it. My defense was topnotch in d3 last season, but the best offense still shot 48%. My takeaway was: Individual matchups can significantly impact a game. The average shooting percentage against me last season from partway through the season was 32.9% ovr, 16.35% 3pt. Most games were around the 30% range.

This type of information broken out across the league with some adjustments for "expected performance" would probably make for an interesting read. A little more complicated and a good bit more time unless I could get the data into a spreadsheet format more quickly.

Maybe someday on that analysis...as for player performances...without a pbp or a better breakout of sub information...its unlikely I'll ever even consider working backwards from there.

Oh...and I should mention that rebounding figures could be REALLY accurate by the game by game method.

If you had Supporter, you'd get a play by play. I have a script that I use for my players that runs through the pbp
