I thought I had a handle on this rating, but with further research, I don't know nothin'.

In my game last night, I had an OF of Inept(Low), a rating my team rose to after a round of passing training and the purchase of RESPECTABLE handling and passing PG. So I check out the transfer list to seek further improvement and I find a lad with STRONG handling and PROLIFIC passing. Wondering how much this wonder boy would improve my OF, I checked out his last start, in which he earned a 7.0.

His team played at AWFUL(MEDIUM)!! Worse than me!!

This makes absolutely no sense to me. How is this possible?

Any thoughts?

His stamina is STRONG, too in case you were considering that response.

I think that it is more than one players skills that makes the OF differ...

not just the PG, or am i out on wrong railroad?=)

No kidding. Do you want help or not, man? Defensive skills and defensive tactics are totally different. You could be playing full court press with five Michael Coopers or you could be playing full court press with five World B. Frees. People are trying to help you, pal, and you just snidely shoot them all down.

No, I was talking to the guy who asked for everyone's opinions and then proceeded to reject all the replies as being unhelpful and/or wrong. Sorry if you thought I was directing that post at you.

They are both 'tactics'

One is your offensive tactic, the other is your defensive tactic.

'Tactics' does NOT merely mean offense.

Thjis reply has nothing to do with what I said. If you are going ot be curt then at least try to be correct. AT NO POINT WAS OFFENSE EVER MENTIONED.

Of course there are defensive and offensive tactics.

There are ALSO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF DEFENSIVE ABILITY, which is entirely separate from the tactics you choose.

Yawn.

There are a couple of things this suggests to me:
A) there aren't currently high enough levels of HN/PS to make a large impact on OF ratings, or
B) Tactics, opponent players' skills, and/or opponent's ratings affect OF, or
C) a combination of A) and B).

Yes, this is what I'm finding.

The puzzle to me is that if players like we are seeing on the T/L are being sold, I would expect the selling team to retain similar or better skills.

I think there is a 'D' and that is that PG skills have less impact on OF than the written rules state. That is, for example, instead of the 50%-60% impact it seems the written rules imply, perhaps there is a much closer to equal role for every player, in which case the PG is only 20% to 30% of the team's OF rating.

And all this speculation looks to be totally pointless given the game engine changes announced today.

Oh well. Now we won't even have meaningful history to examine after the ASB.
