Well, based on that, I would call it a race. NASCAR has defense and teams, to an extent. Cycling does, too.

Alright...I just looked up the wikipedia article on it, to get an idea of the rules, and it's definately a sport by my guidelines.
From what I read, you get points based on your lead "jammer" lapping everyone, and those points determine the winner. Because there's not a defined distance or a time limit in which you see how far you can get, it wouldn't be a race. You're not, for example, seeing which team can get a player around the track 40 times, or something.

So, I hope that makes sense as to why it would be classified as a sport and not a race. Luckily I have free time this week. Not looking forward to getting back to the grind next week.

So how come these BB's are wasting all this time on a basketball game when they could be coding a Roller Derby simulation?

So a game where people fall over and complain if they are so much as breathed on is more respectable/manly than a sport where men beat each other with metal polls and throw a small rubber ball upwards of 100 mph at people? What is the world coming to?

As mentioned previously it is tough to use your own country's methods of playing a sport as a proxy if that is not the original or true method of playing it.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I think soccer is an impressive, grueling sport, more art than fight. It always seems to me as if one elaborate puzzle is playing itself out on the field as teams try to find a break. But I will always be baffled by a soccer player talking down on a lacrosse player. Particularly given neither are main stream sports in America (where the incident in question happened, obviously different abroad).
