I think the real problem that BB has in bringing new users into the game is the fact that it is slow going. It takes days to actually accomplish anything with your team and months to become successful. If there was a feature that could be added as a hook or an attention grabber then I think a much higher percentage of users would stick with this amazing game.

Nice conclusion.

I also think the same, at the begining it's really hard for the manager to know what to do, d i've seen a lot of managers that after some weeks they give up the game because they think it's too complicated. If they dont leave, most of them they stay for 1-2 seasons and after they quit it.

On the spanish help forum there's a thread where new managers can ask for a ''guide'' so he shows the manager the first steps, but just a few ask for it.

I think we could create a system where the managers can join the ''helpers list''(each community having their own), so when a new manager joins the game he receives an email from BB saying he can write to X manager(link to the manager) if he needs help.

From my pov the helps forums are usefull when you have done the first steps, but if you are a new manager you see too much information and too much to read.

Personally, I never used the help forum, and the only mentor I ever had was just to ask a few questions about finding a good trainee. I picked up almost everything on my own within a few weeks. Maybe you're all just whiners ;).

A lot of BB's users are young and can't figure it out as well or else they don't want to put in the time. Unfortunately those are also the users who have been warned to stay away from 'strangers' on the Internet so they aren't as easy to help. However I do think if each new user could be given a 'guide' to help them out at the start it could get a lot of new users a better taste of what the game actually is.

I'm not whining, i'm just sharing some thoughts.

It's clear you are an exception because that group of users that we are talking about they never write on forums(check the V spanish divisions, the 95% of the forums are almost dead)

------

I came here through Hattrick on S3 and during this seasons i always have thought, why we are not a 500k users game if it has the potential to attract such numbers of users or even more?

I think this ia good idea. I think each Country could open a thread where people who want to be guides say so, but are only allowed to become guides if a GM approves of them to avoid any inexperienced or bad guides or just trolls in general. It could really help.

Looks like he isn't that smart after all, haha :p

Also the one problem with having guides I think would be finding people who actually wanted to do it. Mentoring a couple of people isn't so bad, but if you're in a big nation with a lot of people joining every week, it would be a pain to have to explain the simplest things over and over again. There may be some people who would want to do this, but I personally would not want to have to explain a bunch of useless info to people only for them to quit a week later :>/ Why can't people just read?

Yeah I can see that happening, so there could be a very easy way to stop being a guide if you'd like to. Id be up for it :)

Just thought I would make sure everyone knew I was kidding. BB is a complex game and is pretty tough to understand in full. Personally, I found everything I needed in the Game Manual and Guide to BB. Maybe a sort of welcoming committee wouldn't be such a bad idea. Just make yourself available to a new manager give them some links to helpful sources of info. I like the idea of having guides. It wouldn't necessarily have to be that intensive, just provide a few links, maybe answer a few initial questions and be off. I'd be up for that. But it'd have to be designed so that it isn't particularly intensive or guides would get overwhelmed.
