A combination of the older teams being complacent and the newly promoted teams being better prepared and wanting to stay up more.

Or just a combination of the market and it's crash ;)

I think BB wanted this gap between Div 1 and Div 2 closed and now they have it but I think at the expense of good management. I am not saying new team are not good managers but for teams to be able to save all year and then buy a rental team for playoffs is taking away from the skill of the game.

Haha

I actually reckon its gotten harder for teams to rent a team for the playoffs and actually win it all. Firstly they sacrifice HCA, which as we all know, is huge. And second, alot of teams now have good wage efficient players, which aren't that far behind the 300K wage monsters (for example, from my team Manfrotto has more total skill points than a Radford, they are just allocated differently).

5 or 6 seasons ago the 300K wage players were still cheap, and probably a good recipe for short term playoff success. I'm not so sure that is the case now.

Its a total different ball game now.

Us old timers remember when there was actually a transfer market it was pointless tanking, you had to train and develop your team over time to be successful. You couldn't tank for a season and raise enough money to buy a championship team. Back then you tanked and you would have only raised enough money to fund half of a 40k C purchase...

Alright I'm gonna go back to my chair can someone bring me my slippers?

Actually I wasn't really thinking about playoffs (even though I wrote 'playoffs')but rather the relegation series. The Big 8 has always been tough with very little difference between 4th and 7th. When the market is this way, you can get the jump on those teams that have fought all season for that 4th ro 5th spot only to find themselves in a relegation series.

HC is big but Koop still may have won had Radford (even with less skill points probably would have owned The Manfro :P) not gone down so it still applies to playoffs.

Probably but Arc owned Manfro anyway ;)

Agree that it is more of a concern for the relegation series, but I think that's probably got a bit to do with the amount of bots we seem to be having in the ABBL lately - normally you tank for most of the season and you get autorelegated

Getting to ABBL is already difficult enough. Just the thought of surviving have made many given up! :p
