Being clear that our teams were by far the strongest in the league during the whole season, it made no sense for us to harm each other. Finally, as Tramuntana was still alive in BBM and wanted to buy some players for div II before the POffs, it made sense that it was him who tried to promote via Play-Offs. For me, it was perfect as I could sell a couple of players before the Play Offs, not pay salaries for this week, and train more comfortably.
This is like in cycling when a couple of riders attack and help each other to get far from the bunch (therefore harming the bunch) and fight for victory with each other. There are thousands of situations in BB (like this or like a TIE TIE or whatever that could be "harming" other teams), and this is part of the game. I could find these more questionable when a shitty team gets benefited just because of beings friends with someone, but when it's the two strongest teams in the league making sure that one of the promotion positions by rank stays in the league instead of going to another league, I think it is a fine choice.
I think that Korean was just unlucky to encounter two powerful teams in the same conference. He showed courage and fought until the end, but I think he had no chance without HCA against any of us under any circumstances. Teams in the other conference were even below.
@Joe: despite the initial goal of the season being the promotion, the fact that I was 6-7th in salaries most of the season (which I did not expect) made me think that it could also be OK to stay. Also, I made around 1.5m this season and gave more IS than I initially planned, so Baldolma`s and Ryehauge's salaries would be OK for another season here. To sum up, the door was open to have a beneficial path in case of promotion or not.
Well, I could have made it more difficult for you if I had played with more enthusiasm in our league game. I might very well have won. And you‘d have had to decide if you‘d go for promotion via PO‘s or not. And I‘m not so sure that I wouldn‘t have stood a chance against your team. Yes, my team wasn’t very balanced to begin with and since I lost the first games against you and Tramuntama (close games btw), it was clear that I would get close to HCA. And against Tramuntana I didn‘t stand a chance, even with the help of a couple of players from the TL. I wouldn’t have bought them if I‘d had more financial reserves. But I didn‘t and still tried.
But if I‘d won against Tramuntana, I might as well have gotten a shot at the finals. And yes, HCA is a bitch. Unfortunately Tramuntana didn’t/ couldn‘t accept my offer for a pickup scrimmage right after the game. Would have been really interesting to see if I‘d had a shot with HCA…
Anyway. It‘s not forbidden what you did. It was clear after the last league game (and actually before that because you sold your players) that you had a pact. One doesn‘t have to like it but I guess almost everyone has at least gotten a TIE-Offer in his/ her BB-career. It‘s part of the game. I don‘t do that. Or at least haven’t in quite some time. But it‘s not forbidden. So hey, it‘s a game, you tried to make the most of the possibilities for both of you. It worked because both of you profit. Doesn‘t mean that people will like you more for it or celebrate you … everyone can play the game the way the see fit. The training part is the most important aspect for me. And I‘m usually to sentimental to part with players when I might most profit. I still love the game… 🏀
Merry Christmas everyone!
