good points there greeny, and im going to maybe challange this conversation a bit by saying this:
will any of the above make a difference?
Sure if no one took the position seriously, we would probably go backwards, but will any of the above 'community' propositions make an actual difference?
when it boils down to it, there are only so many players who are 21 who are good enough to play. no new good draftee's means the team doesn't get better.
Perhaps the Aus community needs more users like Iwen who did the whole 'drop to Div IV' tactic?
lewisham wombats dropped from abbl last season due to lack of interest in the game - perhaps we as a community need to identiy the users who are planning on doing this or even encourage users to do this if they are not planning on playing the game in the standard manner.
If more experienced managers dropped to lower leagues = more experienced managers investing in the draft = more experienced managers with good draftee's to train.
imagine if everyone in the abbl tanked, ended up in different DIV III leagues, finished last, all drafted an ATG, and then trained them. how crazy would that be!
anyways - just a thought.
I agree that the limited number of trainees owned or drafted by Aussie managers will always dictate, to some extent, what future U21 teams look like but I guess my 'community' proposal isn't designed to address that specifically but indirectly.
Let's put aside the vast number of experienced managers we have for a moment and look at the new Aussie managers coming through. After all, let's face it, often it is these guys (new to DIv IV, III and to a lesser extent II) who come in, draft a MVP, HOF or ATG and either neglect them, half-hazardly attempt to train them, or sell them overseas all because they don't know
what they've got. The community idea I put forward is more about setting up a visual place (thread) where it is made very clear to all the community's expectations regarding the U21 NT. This thread, complete with links to training info elswhere and to experienced Aussie managers, would become the U21 NT hub. New managers and old alike could create, develop and maintain it. I guess this is how I could see the community approach being beneficial to training U21 guys. Get hold of the new managers earlier. Get them to hold onto their prospects while we get them up to speed faster. Get them aquainted with how to train them efficiently earlier.
Of course, this is where the vast number of experienced managers come into play. And yes, I completely agree with your suggestion/thinking regarding more Aussie managers like Iwen doing the training/farming thing. I can already see this starting to happen. I've been playing BB since S14 now and this season in particular has seen (imo) more Aussie managers chasing Aussie players, more Aussie managers talking about keeping or getting back former Aussie players and more Aussie managers talking about Aussie draftees and the need to get them and train them hard. There is a shift. As a community, we might embrace this swing and utilise the experience (
and cash) of those managers we have and know so well.
