It depends how you perceive your opponent will perform.

When I was in div IV, my playoff final was against an relatively inactive team. I beat him by 20 in the first game at home. I knew I could smash him again so I tanked the second game, played TIE and then went to beat him again in game 3. Extra match income.

In div III, my playoff final was against an active team. I just squeezed in a victory away in game 1. Having just won away from home, I had no intention of taking it to game 3 if I could help it as winning away from home is not an easy task so I played to win game 2.

Thats what i was thinking the first game is the key. If you win as the away team as u said i wouldn't be tanking the home game. If you win as the home team by a lot you would be pretty safe TIE the next game then winning the 3rd game. If u just win the first game its a bit trickier. Try and win in 2 or hoping the extra enthusiasm u get by TIE is enough for game 3.

In div 4, I don't think the extra income from the 3rd game (which is probably only 50k or so assuming you are the home team) is worth it to risk losing a whole seasons worth of income. Maybe in the higher divisions it might be worth it as arena income is more, but for a mere 50k, is it worth risking the outcome of the final. The other team might buy a really good player and you accidentally foul out one player or something, anything can happen.
You are better off maximising your chance to get to the next division rather than risk spending a whole season in the same division for 50k.

That risk you take is totally up to you. If you were winning by 20+ in the first game, unless something dramatic happens you will probably win game 3 as well.

Teams can not buy players once the playoffs have started so their roster is locked in.

You could also gain promotion via a bot cleanup even if by some dramatic reason you failed to win

I threw last seasons second game in the finals, because it was clear I would win game 3 as I played against a bot who was a huge underdog.

I went on to win the finals, but I lost a big amount of fan support and I dont think the 150k extra I made were worth the loss in my fan survey...
