This player will need a lot of work on the outside unless you want a player that you cant afford.
I would start with OD right away and get that all the way up to 9. Then i would set him up for a a rotation of PA and 1on1. I would like PA at 9 just as OD but im not sure how long that would take. 3-4 pops though is a minimum i see for him in PA. If you get PA up two pops and then DR up two pops and do so until you have gotten 4 pops each i think your set for now on the outside. Then you can start training inside skills. I dont like how low SB is but i wont force you into training it as i know many dont like it. Start with ID as it is a bit lower then the other skills.
You should train ST on 2 match weeks to fix that also.
Ones in a while you can give him a pop in DR and JS to so they dont get left behind.

i would not rotate P and 1vs1, jsut leave 1vs1 (for forwards) to when he has ok inside skills and then you can train him that at least thats the way i`m building my PF

I`m the nicest person you will know:)

Does it make any sense to train him as a guard or SF? Or would it really take too long because of his height?

I dunno... ever seen people train Yao Mings to play as guard? Just to answer the question I haven't seen a decent 7'0" in buzzerbeater yet.

But you can be the first

A bit of a blanket statement there... a tad ridiculous (statement, not you!).
I have 2 bigs I'm training (one requiring a lot more work on his secondaries than the other). The younger one (21) is 7'2", and his training has been such that he is on the HK U21 team as a SF/PF.

Whenever someone wants help and shows us skills of his trainee, it would be good if that person could tell us what would that player become. Like...

[skills]

I want this player to be [Dirk Nowitzki], [Best SF in BB], [Pass-first PG], [shooting guard]...without this information, we can't help as much as we could.

i would check with your NT managerto see whether he could make the team one day with the right training. Bear in mind though that NT big players may end up having salaries around 200k + by the time they are ready and this might not fit your teams financials by that point in the future. (although this would be many seasons down the line - plenty of time to maximise your arena seating and get promoted!)

some others have covered that you can focus on his big skills from day 1 and end up with a regular looking PF/C (with no passing) after a few seasons, or focus on his guard skills while he is young and they are relatively quick to increase, then train big skills and end up with a great PF/C which will last you 10 seasons+.

The last poster suggests a compromise between the two which i think is a great way of looking at it as well.

If you want to maximise his transfer value because you want to make the most profit, then this is a different way of looking at it.
It might mean you are better off selling right away (18 year olds with high potential go for great money even compared to well trained 19 and 20 year olds).

If you are going to train his guard skills for a season or two id recommend getting a couple of guard trainees to train at the same time. That way you can train him at guard in the cup games and the other guards in your league games and still be competitive.
when you switch to the big skills in 2 seasons either keep doing the guards if they need it or sell them and get some more bigs for trainees

hope this helps!
