Is that 'unfortunately you're going to miss the game' or 'unfortunately you have to visit your mother-in-law'? ;)

Agreed.

That's why in some of the real life leagues I play in I detest that there is no shot clock... it doesn't stop me from telling the team to rotate ball at the top at the end of close games to run down the clock though.

If anyone deserves to beat the tank and buy up team, it is Windies though. He did really well, bad luck really. It isn't a foregone conclusion, he could still win. Next game is on his court. I have not stayed in div 2 for all of these seasons with the dodgy rosters that I ran with for no reason though.

Maybe I am too competitive, but I do enjoy winning.

I fully expect to demote next season, barring any changes to my plan. 19 year old guards with average OD and passing aren't going to cut it I think.

I think the whole 'tanking' debate isnt very black/white.

If it was, then anyone who isnt trying to win the championship every single season, is essentially tanking.
That means that this year, i tanked. and seasons 12, 13, 14, and last season, i tanked.

If i use myself as an example, i knew that i wasnt going to be able to win the championship, but at the same time, was i going to buy up a roster that maxed out my revenue? Of course not. in fact i sold some guys, so that i could maximise my revenue.
Is that tanking? maybe it is. Its pretty strategic really and wise and its just part of the game unfortunately.
Is what TL did unfair? Not in the spirit of the game? Personally, i dont see it any different to a 4th placed team TIE'ing against the top side one week , in order to build up enthusiasm so that they can beat the 2nd placed team the following week. No different to a team setting a dud-lineup in game 2 of the finals, in order to save players for the 3rd and final game at home.
Tactics or tanking? One and the same as far as im concerned. Thats just my opinion on it.
However I do agree, that blowing a whole season to save money, only to come back right at the end, probably needs to be made less attrative an option in the game.

I don't have a problem with teams tanking and demoting, the issue I have is with teams that can tank and save up a whole bunch of cash and then buy up a roster two days before the playoffs/relegation series. I don't think that's how the game was ever intended to work.

I still think there's an easy fix - only teams that are on your roster prior to the all-star game are eligible to play in the playoffs.

Haha agreed with that. I'll get tremell along to tell you about some of the antics we got up to when trying to close out games...

Ok tremell is in the house.

Most famous clock waste I was involved in during my time involved the cagey veteran of social basketball matt1986.

We were up by 1 with about 30sec to go playing a bunch of refs and faggots that thought they ran the joint. Anyway loose ball near half court, it was pretty much going off our team so instead of trying the hopeless save back into the court Matt grabs it and pretends to not be able to stop running. At which stage he sets off and runs all the way across to the other side of the court next to us where a game is being played! Being in no rush he showed fake desperation to get back to our court by holding his hands and ball up in the air whilst the other game continued providing him with no chance of getting back before the game finished. The clock expired we won and a famous victory and many laughs were shared by our team. I think Matt got threatened to be beaten up by some angry guy then lol.

we just used to use the old 'up by 1, 30 seconds left, foul and call subs', including a very slow transition of players being subbed on-off.
no rules in regular season about stopping clock or no subs in last 2 mins back then. so it was a grand tactic to use.
