In the NBA, there is a direct correlation between teams who are paying over the soft-cap and teams who make the playoffs.

obviously there are some exceptions, but in general, the higher the team payroll, the better the team is.

Top 10
Lakers
Nets
Magic
Heat
76's
New York
Portland
Boston
Chicago
Clippers

Bottom 10 payroll (lowest to highest)
Rockets
Kings
Bobcats
Suns
Bucks
Memphis
New Orleans
Utah
Indiana
Toronto

some obvious exclusions to the rule, but in general, if there was a soft cap, it wouldnt make a difference - all the teams with all the cash would just aobsorb the cost/tax would just buy a team better than everyone elses.

Sure - they get compensated - but that doesn't put Kobe in their lineup the following season.

If you read up on the salary cap fines, they are absolutely INSANE. I think the lakers are going to have to pay something like $85 million in taxes in 2014 for a roster worth around $100 million. Certainly not something to sneeze at. This would make managers think twice before splurging on a huge roster of monsters.

I mean it's not a perfect solution, and matt you're probably right it would be overkill to implement all of it if the aim was purely to stop rentals. But I'm thinking of the bigger picture. I'm thinking of transitioning this game towards an even more realistic model representing some of the more interesting aspects of the NBA's CBA like luxury taxes, soft caps, etc which every NBA GM needs to think about.

alll quiet on the front

the games are set, the teams are set, relegation series looks to be an interesting set of games this year as well.

probably should set a lineup for tomorrows game now shouldnt i! bloody dumbo. more concerned with other games that playign against someone who's team salary is 3 times mine.

Team Akuma has me well and truly trumped.

My bank balance is going to rival that of Cyprus's very soon and I dont have a snowflakes of a chance

I was expecting you to sneak in one last acquisition as late as possible to give me as little time to react as possible

That's why I pre-empted and I bought Havasi Saturday night / Sunday morning. Man I think that was the only time I've ever stayed up until the wee hours of the morning bidding on players

Hell I wish some one had of bid over me to get Cranshaw.

Hopefully Mangoloids can pull off an upset

Hard to believe that ive had 21 wins for the season and have a positive point difference of 633 yet you almost have it in the bag.

Many games throughout the season that I shouldnt have won but I blew it when I dropped the game against Hadders.

Id hate to think how much this season will financially cost me by making you work so hard to promote

Well I wouldn't say I have it in the bag - I mean, HCA is going to be a big advantage but I still think it will be a close fought and very difficult series.

If I do win this season, it'll be all thanks to Hadders :D
I would never have attempted this run if it wasn't for Hadders win giving me a shot at HCA :)
