The same argument can be made for guards. Our top guards have great primary skills, unfortunately that only allows a certain style of play. We lack in secondaries or balance in compared to the top nations.

Here is a Spanish NT'er who is far and away better than any of our guards and for similar dollar value:

(9304607)

Weekly salary: $ 195 483

DMI: 2971900
Age: 29
Height: 6'3" / 190 cm
Potential: MVP
Game Shape: proficient

Jump Shot: phenomenal Jump Range: prolific
Outside Def.: colossal Handling: phenomenal
Driving: colossal Passing: marvelous
Inside Shot: sensational Inside Def.: prominent
Rebounding: inept Shot Blocking: respectable
Stamina: average Free Throw: average

Experience: strong

Our guards may infact have better primaries than this guy, but don't stand a chance when this guy gets into the paint. That gives his team the option to play multiple tactics and move players around based on matchups, game shape, etc.

Maybe I am all alone in my line of thinking, but I hope these examples show that our players are not behind in the key skills. We lack commited trainers that will train a player into their mid to late 20's focusing on creating unique and balanced builds.

agreed
this is why i want to start this discussion now before we are really out of players to call up for the NT

i like how my plan works exactly as intended lol
if you drop down and look at what is available 3-5 seasons down the line for the NT (not to say these players wont develop secondaries), its not a great picture as most bigs do not have adequate secondaries

the purpose of this exercise is for

1) name your pick as plausible bigs that could be of value to the NT
2) evaluate current NT players and why they are on the NT (establish base line skills)
3) make a basic guideline document on how we should push for development of future NT prospects

i think we are at the cusp of, if not complete, all 3 of my goals already =P

now it's just a matter of ironing out some drafts with bballin and myself (which we shall hash out early next week), post it on the off-site for review, then we're good to go public

I think mono-skilled players are very vaulable on the NT level but their ridiculously high salaries make them terrible investments on the club level.

Every time I look at one of these guys on the waiver wire, $250,000+ salary and somewhat mono-skilled, his list of past owners under his profile is a mile long and the transfer fees somewhat cheap.

Please explain...

Have a look at the NT players above and tell me if you would rather have Moran or the Polish PF posted? They have the same salary, but are not comparable!!

Change your mind people, your crazy!! But at least the old fashioned way of thinkng means I should remain competitive for a long time.

Only if you and I are the only ones training these players.

We need all of Canada to be part of training more well rounded players. The problem is that far too many users think salary is important and that mono skilled players are ok :(

I need a glass of wine :)

I agree that balance matters for sure. But everyone seems to be going overboard with it for our bigs. We have lots of guys that will be good PF's, but we don't have any monster centers that also have reasonable outside skills. I'm against mono-skilled players as well, but if we had someone with maybe 6 less secondary pops as Maja and 8 more primary skills, we'd actually have someone that can compete at center on the NT level. We can't just build really balanced PF's all the time and expect to not get killed against an LI offense. We have to be able to train someone with real center primaries that also has the secondaries, which I don't see anyone really doing.

And they're probably not doing it because nobody wants to pay the huge Center salary those 6-8 extra pops commands.

My quick estimate says that 8 extra big man skill pops on Maja would immediately double his salary from $154,000 to over $300,000. And in turn, he becomes both harder to balance a roster around and a far less desireable commodity on the transfer wire (assuming his guard skills aren't as strong now).

That's not what I was saying. Remember I was the guy that pointed out how much I disliked Moran's skill set earlier this week. ;) I was trying to say that a somewhat mono-skilled player with the high salary has more value to the NT than he does to a club team simply because the NT doesn't have to pay his ridiculous salary. I'm definitely not trying to say that a mono-skilled player is more valuable than a multi-skilled player with a similar salary or even a lower salary.

As for your theory on multi skilled players being able to play different tactics and move around the lineup, I'm in full agreement.

in summary (i threw this together in 2mins, and its been a long work day trying to jam BB into breaks.... if i sound retarded, its probably because i am lol)

a) mono-skilled players (19-20s) with useless secondaries (1-3s) = no real use
b) mono-skilled players (19-20s) with some secondaries (4-5s) = worth a shot but only at NT levels
c) biased primaries (~18s) with decent secondaries (5-8s) = salary is an issue at club level but useful at NT level
d) good primaries (16-17s) and good secondaries (9-10s) = the gains with secondaries couldve been better used at primaries
d) insufficient primaries (15 or less) due to over trained secondaries (11-12s) = looks like we got a SF here lol
