Results of the big games
CROCKERS vs. Whitebeard 27 - 112 (48836951) turned out to be a big screw up CROCKERS sent in the scrubs but forgot to TIE.
Guanzheng Goldfish vs. Koopasaurus 70 - 113 (48836918) the Goldfish threw the game after losing the first time they met.
Billy Hoyles Boys vs. Pancakes with Jam and Cream 103 - 86 (48836906) Pancakes sent out their stars for heavy minutes but the boys were way too good.
Monkey Business vs. Glenelg Tigers 138 - 74 (48836939) Monkey put the effort in but didn't need to as Glenelg threw it.
Rampaging Marmots vs. West Island Tigers 55 - 77 (48836955) the Marmots tried hard but couldn't handle the Man Dic.
Melbourne Redbacks vs. The Winnerz 103 - 115 (48836903) one of the matches of the round with the Winnerz living up to their name in overtime.
TeamAkuma vs. Perth Power Hustlers 107 - 44 (48836929) There was no Hussle in this match.
GC Vikings vs. ACT Blaze 82 - 101 (48836945) the Vikings had more effort but the Blaze had homecourt and a deeper roster.

Upsets
Not a lot of upsets this round but maybe some of these count.
Popenpop vs. Whompas Donkeys 94 - 82 (48836928) away but with more effort they brought down the division II team.
Lewisness vs. The J ballers 107 - 112 (48836938) division II Lewisness put in more effort but it wasn't enough to stop promotion hopefulls the J Ballers.
lazio@ vs. Flames 98 - 101 (48836949) not as much an upset as it seems Flames taking down #11 in Australia lazio@ as he has been inactive most of the season.
BrisvegasSpurs vs. puffy_jnch 87 - 90 (48836959) puffy_jnch looked like the only team trying out there. It feels good when it works but you look like a fool when it doesn't.

Lucky team of the round
JW City Bulls vs. Hamertime 87 - 86 (48836960) JW should have lost missing two free throws with two 12 seconds to go but Hammertime fumbled the rebound and JW got a second chance which the used well. There reward is a date with me!

Round Five Preview

Now things are really heating up with just 64 teams left.
10 x ABBL
2 x II.1
3 x II.2
5 x II.3
7 x II.4
4 x III.1
2 x III.2
2 x III.3
0 x III.4
3 x III.5
4 x III.6
2 x III.7
2 x III.8
1 x III.9
2 x III.10
0 x III.11
4 x III.12 (all Big 8)
3 x III.13
1 x III.14
0 x III.15
3 x III.16
4 x division IV

So going by this the balance has shifted and II.4 is the toughest (or luckiest) division II and III.1, III.6 and III.12 are as usual the toughest (or luckiest) division IIIs.

Big Games of Round Five

Actually considering it is round five it is surprising to see how many games aren't big matchups. First seven games on the list don't excite me but then we have a couple of interesting ones.

CCCPBA (Aust. Div.) v Gisborne Gladiators our own Bainsy has to take on a medium strength division II team. He is looking for promotion so how much is he willing to put into this one?

branny v The Winnerz RazorSharp has had a magical season so far but Branny is a division III team with a division II roster, will the dream turn to a nightmare?

Billy Hoyles Boys v Henley Beach Hawks poor BHB have probably had the toughest run in the cup so far and draw yet another decent team. On paper BHB look much better but in division II.4 HBH have something of a reputation as giant killers.

Aussie Pride v Coin Collectors Phoebe is probably now the top ranked female in Australia but draws my old master in what will be a very tough ask. I hope he thorws his league game to concentrate on this. (Yes it is against me.)

JW City Bulls v Chelsea Seagulls the second highest rating matchup of the round (33 v 6) JW will note I threw my first game this week so I will have all the stars ready for this one and JW will need to bring something special to Bonbeach Arena.

Viral Infections v Geelong Vipers two super intense managers go head to head and with Naker anything can happen, the only thing I can guarantee is it will involve old players.

Whitebeard v TeamAkuma the top rated game of the round (1 v 27) will probably spell the end of Akuma's cup run although with HCA and more flexibility to CT he will no doubt be looking carefully at WBs minutes this week.

Lots more exciting games as well cup fans but there are a few to watch out for as things start to heat up. See you next Thursday.

Some good work there yoda.

Noodles I voted for you to win the cup, and bloody hell have you had a hard draw to get this far. Thus I think you should try win it to stick it up the BB game engine which gave you that draw

Disclaimer: unless we somehow meet if we fluke a win vs the Russians in this round

Cat i agree i have had a couple of years with very easy draws. Made the last 132 one year playing scrubs the whole way as the league was my focus. The BB gods are certainly trying to square things up.

I'm hoping to at least make the semis bainsy but i will no doubt draw BLS next week and lose to him as usual.

My biggest issue is going to be weather or not i run into someone who wants to drop the hammer on a couple of 200k guys. I'm really happy with my roster but it's built to be sustainable not to haemorrhage cash for a one off cup or league run!

LOL stuff going for the ABBL title or CUP title, save enough dough to make a run at the B3 title...

will need to save enough to sustain two seasons of monster salaries for that to happen though.

good comment by J ballers, harsh but true noodles. And indeed a tough draw in the cup, I need more depth to be able to push for a deeper cup run but battling in the leauge takes priority.

Round Five Results

Well there were some amazing games tonight and a ton of upsets. It wasn't agood night for the ABBL which will no doubt make a lot of people happy with three going down.

The Big Game Results

CCCPBA (Aust. Div.) vs. Gisborne Gladiators 86 - 101 (48854064)
Bainsy threw a CT and there is a rumor that a KGB death squad has been seen headed his way. While the Russian big men led by U21 sensation Lonergan did well the star of the night was $70k PG Jarosław Garbos who destroyed the pathetic Berlin picket fence of the CCCPBA guards.

branny vs. The Winnerz 68 - 89 (48854065)
Chris Johnson another U21 legend was unstoppable playing at SF and Vladan Bacanovic smothered his man keeping him to 3/16 shooting. Only Erich Vonk could get it going for branny which was probably funny, I don't know the cross matches but he is a PG playing at SF while his opposite was a PF playing at SF.

Billy Hoyles Boys vs. Henley Beach Hawks 102 - 67 (48854066)
Non-event BHB threw their game during the week against Wombats and won this easily.

Aussie Pride vs. Coin Collectors 68 - 87 (48854068)
Massive upset for CC here with adams guns old star Christopher Sidwell leading the way. Surely this team is a chance to promote? From the ABBL forums:
Well my cup run is over. Rested my star SG against Seagulls so he could dominate in my cup game with Patient. 14-46 shooting was subpar. End up losing both games so a very bad week. Forgot to play a 2-3 zone instead of m2m so that might have helped. Oh well back to concentrating on the league.

JW City Bulls vs. Chelsea Seagulls 35 - 117 (48854071)
Another non-event. I threw a league game and JW threw the cup. Was nice to see Melmeth with LeBron like numbers 25/11/8.

Viral Infections vs. Geelong Vipers 123 - 52 (48854081)
Another non-event with severe tankage.

Whitebeard vs. TeamAkuma 128 - 40 (48854085)
Ditto.

Other Upsets

North Carlton Cavaliers vs. Harey Men 92 - 106 (48854061)
The division IV Men at home with a CT threw the division II Cavaliers out of the cup and have probably made Keyser Söze X's night as they have them next.

Bchums vs. ACT Blaze 102 - 97 (48854063)
Another massive upset as division II ACT sent in only one real player against division IV Bchums who sent in one and a half. Biggest winner here is The Victorian Allstars.

Baxter Bogans vs. puffy_jnch 70 - 94 (48854080)
ABBL Bogans are having a money making season but being CT'd away by division III puffy_jnch probably doesn't help.
Also from the ABBL forums.
Yoda: it has always been easy for a lower division team to have HCA, throw a CT and steal the game if they really want to.
Trikster: welcome to my world tonight. I played 3 guys more than 40k above his highest salary and still lost

High School Drop-outs vs. The Players 86 - 97 (48854088)
Even playing at the same effort it seems the Players had more players in this game and HSDO at least can now see if they can make a move in league.

The Game of the round

Bell Park SuperCats vs. Flames 82 - 85 (48854086)
ABBL vs division III but again HCA and effort count for so much and the Flames have been around since season two so have obviously learnt a trick or two. What a dramatic finish. Scores tied, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

4 0:00 82 — 85 E. Sanderson (H) forces up a three from the top of the arc, guarded closely by M. Eade (A). Scored.
4 0:00 82 — 85 A buzzerbeater for E. Sanderson (H)!
4 0:00 82 — 85 End of period.

Ernest Sanderson you have the play of the round. We salute you.

:) very happy to get the win, and so emphatically.
Probably didn't need to CT in the end, but can't know ahead of time. :P
Hooray for having pretty solid OD on most of my team. :)
Now to look forward at round 6.
