Not sure what you really mean about Helvigs and his opponent being Sperbert. Both teams had zones so they weren't facing eachother at either end and head to head Sperbert did quite well. But don't worry I think your votes are fine and thanks heaps for doing them. I'll do the tallies now.

Obviously I can't be too unhappy with Olli being on top of the MVP charts at the moment. I guess being the top scorer in the competition and on the top team (last week) doesn't hurt his chances. But I still suspect that one of the next four in Shaun McArthur, Antonio Manfrotto, Razvan Muresan or Xie Guanzheng will be able to catch him.

Big thanks to Matty for doing last week. We are all up to date now so anyone can fee free to do this week. If you just do the votes it is really just a 10-20 minute job and it is good to spread the opinions around.

Game 1 – Lewisham Wombats 104 defeat Guanzheng Goldfish 92

It is always exciting to see two very different styles go head to head on the court, and that is what we had in the first game of this round. It was "Berries and Melons Night" http://th03.deviantart.net/fs71/300W/f/2010/164/f/5/Journ... at the Tavern, and the Master Chef came looking to fill a full platter, lighting up the court for a game high 38pts. With the game swinging back and forth, it is understandable that the Wombats fans unleashed a wave of empty (and some not so empty) cups when Birol Yalduz was forced to bench following a hard shot from Radoslaw Rymer, which left Yalduz with a suspected dislocated fringe. Thankfully for the Wombats, this early concern was proved unwarranted. It also did nothing to slow the Wombats, with Manfrotto, Laumianskas and Goodall taking up the slack as the Wombats juiced the Goldfish in the final period.

Votes

3 – Xie Guanzheng (Guanzheng Goldfish) 38pts
2 – Birol Yalduz (Lewisham Wombats) 22pts (10-13FG)
1 – Antonio Manfrotto (Lewisham Wombats) 22pts, 12rbds

The Master Chef gets the 3 votes for another outstanding offensive performance, and a solid defensive performance against Conghai and Gafa. If Yalduz had been able to play out the game, he would probably have won the three votes, but his 30mins was easily worth the 2 votes. Manfrotto gets the votes over his fellow Euro-Big Laumianskas because he is more high profile and that clearly effects voting.

Game 2 – TeamAkuma 94 defeat Baxter Bogans 87

Take note fellow fishbowlers, The Fat Cat is back! Yes, the man who at one time had the damn MVP Award named after him took full control of this game right when his team needed him to, as a Smeltz inspired TeamAkuma steamrolled over the top of the Bogans in the final period to take the victory. Smeltz scored 12pts in the 4th period, as he Diogo Vargas simply out muscled the Bogans. The newest Bogan, 7’2” Aussie Merlin Grima could do nothing but watch, and then ask for an autograph. Following the game, Smeltz was heard to say that he was glad to be back playing well in the Fishbowl, and that it was nice to “not have to worry about bloody Duff-Duff trying to bang my mum.”

Votes

3 – Ky Smeltz (TeamAkuma) 33pts, 17rbds, 14-17FG
2 – Diogo Bernardo Vargas (TeamAkuma) 21pts, 20rbds (12OR)
1 – Hannes Allandi (Baxter Bogans) 26pts

Fat Cat for the 3 votes; with Vargas securing the 2 votes. Outstanding rebounding from the two TeamAkuma bigs as they combined to outrebound the entire Bogans line-up. Hannes Allandi picks up one vote, as my fiancé is of Estonian heritage and she would be upset with me if she knew I had over-looked a fellow countryman.

Game 3 – Slam ! 104 defeat Western Titans 92

It was a firey start to the 14th encounter between these two teams, with 18 fouls being committed in the first period. Slam ! were out of the gates quickly, catching a tired looking Titans team off-guard, who were clearly still recovering from a week that saw most of the starters play a league game, two cup games and in the II.4 all-star game. With both teams playing a Look Inside, it was never going to go well for the Titans once franchise player Uditi Samdup fouled out early after a great offensive start. While Bento Filho tried to fill the gap, he was never going to stop Razvan Muresan and Calixto Delgadillo. The score only looks this close due to the Slam ! stars getting a well-deserved break in the final period.

Votes
3 – Razvan Muresan (Slam !) 25pts, 15rbds, 4asts
2 – Calixto Delgadillo (Slam !) 21pts, 8rbds
1 – Peeter Haav (Slam !) 16pts, 6asts, 3 stls,10-12 FT

Muresan and Delgadillo are easy choices for the top votes; having shown they are a step above their opponents. I could have given Filho the 1 vote, but Haav played the great PG role of the Look Inside. Plus, the whole Estonian thing.

I like your style.

Though I should point out that Guanzheng letting Conghai score 9 points on 4-9 shooting is actually an abysmal defensive effort - Given that Conghai hadn't scored a field goal in his last two PL game. But I won't hold that against you

Game 4 – Chumunga 91 defeat Koopasaurus 84

Koopasaurus tried playing a nice patient offence in this game, and unfortunately the all-Aussie starting line-up of Koopasaurus were just too darn patient, leaving their scoring run much too late to prevent Chumunga from taking the win. Both teams looked to kick the ball around (11 players hit double figure scoring), and to kick their opponents while they were at it, with Alfred Rooney and Mohammed bin Mat Noor (Koopasaurus) and Rafal Gierkowski (Chumunga) all fouling out.

Votes

3 – Glen Tidwell (Chumunga) 24pts, 5rbds, 3asts
2 – Francis Masters (Chumunga) 17pts, 6rbds, 5asts
1 – Mohammed bin Mat Noor (Koopasaurus) 15pts, 18rbds

A tough one to separate votes, with lots of players contributing to their teams endeavours. Tidwell gets the nod as the game’s high scorer, and for the excellent defensive work against both Scrimgeour and Hare. Masters was the faithful number two for his team and gets the two votes. Mohammed bin Mat Noor gets the 1 vote for taking on the big Russian Berestetskiy (who has had a great Fishbowl) and coming away with a moral victory.

Game 5 – Urmummas 121 defeat Moorditj Magick 75

Game 5 of the round saw the number 3 ranked team in the country take on the rapidly climbing 65th ranked Moorditj Magick, and let’s just say there is a slight gap between 3rd and 65th. As the guy who introduced Matty8 to the world of Buzzerbeater I want to just say his team is becoming great, he got his tactics right and that…yeah, he got spanked by Urmummas (hehe). The margin was 15 at the end of the 1st period, 28 at half time and 49 at three quarter time. Not much else to say.

Votes

3 – Sun Cunming (Urmummas) 27pts, 18rbds, 11-14FG
2 – Jaak Vahi (Urmummas) 17pts, 8asts, 4stls, 7-11FG
1 – Theo Coungnand (Urmummas) 18pts, 7asts

Cunming was the standout by far in this game, taking the solid inside defence of the Magick 2-3 zone and making it look second rate. Jaak Vahi gets the nod over Coungard and Marcelo Rodriguez (Moorditj Magick) for the assists+steals. That and you know…Estonian.

Game 6 – Black Label Society 120 defeat Chelsea Seagulls 117

Easy choice for Game of the Round. Black Label Society had clearly decided before the game that if your name was wasn’t Phung, Howorth, or McArthur that you really should not be shooting the ball. The Seagulls went even simpler…give the ball to Olli (does anyone else remember when the Seagulls were all about the outside shooting, or is it just me that recalls that?). After a stale mated 1st period the BLS back court came out swinging (and swishing) to give their team a half-time lead. The Seagulls struck back in the second half, taking a 97-100 lead with 20 seconds left in the game, before the Aussie veteran, Tyler Chowdary, fresh on the court, hit a massive three pointer from the top of the arc to tie the game. The teams traded blows throughout overtime, but it was BLS that managed to get the break, again off a clutch three pointer from Chowdary, and snatch the win.

Votes

3 – Olli Krentschker (Chelsea Seagulls) 46pts, 18rbds
2 – Du Phung (Black Label Society) 36pts, 8rbds, 3stls, 3asts
1 – Shaun McArthur (Black Label Society) 27pts

No Olli tonight and this game would not have gone into OT. Phung was outstanding in all aspects of the game, with McArthur getting the single vote for a great offensive and defensive performance. Special mention to Tyler Chowdary who only played 3 minutes, but his 6pts came from two 3FG right when his team needed them.
