the champions of either conference is promoted (regardless of who wins the championship, both teams who play will promote), and there is 1 more automatic demotee in each conference (so the 5 seeds play the 6 seeds in relegation, and the 7 and 8 are both automatically demoted).

That's interesting. I dont know. What would be the benefit of that? More turn over? I guess so far from what i've seen many teams who make that jump to D2 in their first attempt really struggle and often end up back in D3. So if that's happening to 1 team why send 2 teams up there? And then why send 2 teams up and have both the 7 & 8 get demoted. If your lucky as a new promote team holding serve and finishing 7th at least gives you a punchers chance at battling a relegation series and staying for the increased arena and tv contract money. If 2 teams auto demote then hell you promote to demote kind of seems like a mute point.....

Unless in the Utopia you all have seen an increase in game flow or manger activity by having that particular structure...

I thought Utopia did that early just because there weren't alot of Utopia users to it was the fastest way to get all the very very active users in the top leagues quickly and therefore increase Utopia competition and user friendliness.

well, promotion also has fringe benefits. you get a promotion bonus, and the weekly income from both ticket sales and tv contract are significantly increased. so while you may demote your first go-around at d2, it's not a lost season. promoting still serves you extremely well, even if you get worked in your new league and demote right away. you can amass capital, allowing you to do all sorts of things. you could spend the season restructuring your team, making massive arena expansions, simply amassing money for future buying power, 100% focus training (perhaps training way way out of position), spend a shitload in scouting knowing you'll be getting a/the top pick... maybe all of these things all at once.

i for sure know that, if/when i do promote, i'll be demoting immediately. i need a bigger arena and a couple new trainees, and need to restructure my team. i can just use the league minimum salary and spend the season doing things that improve my franchise value, so that next time i promote to d2, i'll be ready to stay for good. i'm all for the idea. it keeps leagues fresh and presents new challenges every single season.

Upsyndrome is why you never had a chance in DII. And to think, my beast of a player A. Hinkle almost went to his team. Lol.

You'll be back in DII again in no time.

I'm wondering the same thing... Maybe my slower pace played right into their hands. On the other hand, it was my defense that got torched.

I never led once in that game. That's not a depth problem, that's a team problem. lol
