(i) I doubt it.
(ii) works for me? I might actually be using (one of ?) the old predictor though. I can't remember, it's just some link I got from a plugin now.
(iii) I bet that could happen.

So I was bored, and was thinking of compiling some stats. However I did not want them skewed by tanked games and what not. The notion was to have actual legitimate contests, where both teams play something close to their A lineups and preferably, it's not a complete blowout.

After doing this subjective process, here are the totals I came up with for which teams have played how many real games.

Myopic Marauders - 12
Bullish Mentality - 11
Silverbacks - 10
Walker Wiggles - 10
Bruins - 9
Funky Town Fire - 9
Burlington Mountain Goats - 7
Black Mambas - 6
Lake Merritt Arrows - 6
Milwuakee Lethargy - 6
Reston Thumpers - 6
Visionaries - 5
Boomshakalakas - 5
Chitown Bangers - 5
King Drive Ballers - 2

I would have assumed LMA and Lethargy were playing more real games given their overall records. Yet it seems teams love tanking to them (I'm guilty of this myself). Perhaps if teams had chosen to act more like Myopic Marauders, we'd have seen some nice upsets from time to time. Which he had over Lethargy, and almost had over LMA in an Overtime contest.

and I was ready to own you, had you made the mistake of *not* tanking our recent game.

I went through a crap ton of lineups and scenarios trying to figure out a way to play all 3 games and throw out an A lineup against you. All of them wound up with a far too weak lineup in the cup. And my current GS levels are just too low, I didn't think I had a good chance at beating you regardless.

However, you are lumping together three categories that should be kept distinct:

Yep, I definitely did, and I agree with your 3 categories. In terms of my statement about how we should all be more like Myopic Marauders, yeah, those categories should be factored in.

But this whole effort came about from me wanting to find more realistic stats about our teams than what Buzzer-Manager provides. So that list was started in order to figure out which games should even go into the team stats. The categories don't matter there.

The only teams that make a real *decision* to tank are type 3

It is easily the only acceptable reason to throw a chance at a game. But I feel like that depends more on the nature of the league. If other teams do it as well, nobody really gets penalized. However if enough people in one of our two conferences focuses instead on a future playoff run, they would then push the teams ready to sacrifice for the cup, down towards a relegation match.

It's kind of weird. In D2 and below, there was only 1 goal. Promotion. Yet here in the NBBA, we've been given the opportunity for 2 different goals. The Title and the Cup. I suppose that's just the nature of the NBBA, with 2 different goals, you'll have enough teams whose focus varies to where nobody gets too penalized by throwing a game or two for the Cup.

Silverbacks are tough, that's a possible loss, he's got the offense to keep up with mine. In our last game I let him drain 7 three's, and he just beat Visionaries with the help of 10 three's. 3 point shooting is a big x-factor in this game. KDB as the last game is risky, especially since he might be in a spot to CT to avoid the relegation series.

It's difficult to predict. Cup draws and a week with either How's My Dirk Taste or Funky Town could turn an expected loss into a lucky win for one of you guys. I've been debating about if I can throw another game or not. I mean, I'm 1st in overall seed, yet 5th in PD.

Thanks.

A few of those "real" games were early in the season when I had delusions about actually winning games. I've also had a very favorable cup draw in terms of home games and opponents (tough ones falling on weeks where I can compete with a B lineup in the league or an obvious tanking game).

However, it pains me greatly to throw any league game ever. I have, grudgingly (perhaps even kicking and screaming), accepted that tanking most road games is the way it has to be but that does not mean I have to like it.

Speaking of NBBA tactics, it feels like given the standings in Big 8, that the "best strategic plan" for me would be to, once I am out of the cup, to sell off everyone who is not core and coast into 4th or 5th instead of fighting my way to 3rd. That seems to be the wrong incentive.

You should have sold right before your most recent cup game.

you have entirely too much free time! lol

Anyway, i was entirely expecting to lose to Myopic. (more effort at home isn't exactly an upset?) In fact would have played only backups, but my backups were good enough for the cup game.... even though that cup team played about 3 $30k guys + 1 $50k guy + used more effort too.

The only advantage of a large roster. Like my last B-team lineup ratings: 12.0, 14.0, 17.0, 13.0, 14.5, 11.5, 9.5, 11.0. Which is respectable at least. (& those guys have had better individual games other days). I noticed you only had 4 non-scrub backups almost the entire season though. So in a sense it's interesting that you're the one bringing up non-competitive games, haha (when your team has been literally incapable of sustaining a 3rd quality lineup per week!!!)

Even vs. another of my "easier" cup games you'd be risking a loss with your B-team... (on the road facing more effort & a $66k PF, $50k C, $27k SG, etc.)

could turn an expected loss into a lucky win for one of you guys.

But I'm not even competing with you, lol! I think you aren't aware that I really don't care to win the title, & never have very much. (i do try to trick myself into a state of semi-interest from time to time though) Like, hypothetically had I made the finals vs. your pre big-money team... I might have even rooted for your team over mine.

I could *easily* buy a title this season & could have bought the last 2 seasons. (Could have sustained a team of 8 $200k+ guys if i really had wanted to). But since at least DIII I just didn't care about that. Like then, my only goal was seeing how good i could do with a sub $100k payroll. (back to back finals!). I'm probably in the vast BB minority however.

(For the record... Obviously if I were super-serious about BB, I wouldn't waste $50k in dead salary week after week, season after season. Or have played in DII with an arena 1/2 to 1/3 the size of other teams. Or 3 position / team training. Or any of the other purposely "wrong" things i've done / continue to do...)

Now I'm not saying that winning the cup / making the final 16 in the world (B3) didn't entertain me. But a lot of the entertainment was because I didn't buy it & did it with a bunch of self imposed constraints.
