Ha ha, Nash is 21, so he won't be in line for a development spot sorry. Kewell would have to be, and I haven't seen "long fur bob" (33832870) for a while.

I really disapprove of the pulling of the real players while there are real games for several reasons:

1) It affects our national rankings.
2) It can upset tournament results and be unfair to other teams who had aims we don't know about.
3) It is unfair on the trainers of the U2 players, they spend four seasons preparing for their moment in the sunlight and then to get yanked sometimes after just a few games is a pathetic way to treat them. They deserve to play all of the real games.
4) It is a good opportunity to be a little experimental and try things out in the U21 environment and hopefully learn a thing or two.

Yeah agree, Im certainly not changing the team at all until all of our real games are over. To the best of my knowledge, that is after this week. Once we play China, I think I have to book scrimmages. If this is the case, I think im following previous managers footsteps in adding 20yr olds for scrimmages. Correct me if im wrong.

I was even contemplating not adding the 20yr olds during the scrimmages, because I thought they affected the rankings too, and I want to stay inside the top 10

I know i jest, but i do actually agree with yoda. I know managers have done it in previous seasons, (once out of cup, pulled the 21 year olds and given the 20's a go) but i just never saw the point and thought it was crap.

As someone who did it 4 times there are a few reasons.

1. It allows you to keep a better track on the best 18 players who can play the following season including their gameshape management. If they can not keep it up while in the side as a 20 year old good chance they never will.
2. It gives them more experience which that little more can make a difference in 21NT IMO.
3. Allows you to see how certain plays work and address any issues within their build before the season starts. IE might have someone who is a PG but see a ittle JS training and they might go from 2nd PG to 1st SG.

Rankings are not effected much by scrims. When I got the job we were 44th or something like that and we sat between 10 and 15 most of my time in the role.

I used to be on the side of adding 20 yo's asap for max experience (and also wondered what it would be like to throw a whole campaign with a super crop coming through and getting exp for a number of seasons). Would have been nice to see the effects of experience.

But these days (especially after having a U21 player myself) I agree with point 3 and 4 of yoda. People _should_ be rewarded for their training. I know I personally changed my training plans a lot at the request of U21 managers etc (which is fine) but that sort of stuff should be recognised a little I think.

A compromise- What about if i add 2 more 20yr olds after the last real game this week, taking our total to 18. I wont drop any players in the current team, and will play players based on game shape, with a focus still on winning. That way our best 20yr old will see court time, and our current team will not be dropped and have the opportunity to play. I'll be looking to scrimmage higher ranked teams if possible.

Of importance is also that the current team consists of 4 20yr olds already, emphasizing the strength of next seasons group. And the next 2 players in line for adding are both 20 yr olds anyway. So it wont be changing who is added regardless of age, the 20 yr olds would be next either way.
