Yes, that's true but I don't think that's the spirit of his question. If you want to be technical, you can train a player who is 100 years old and has 500k salary just don't expect anything out of it.

i did a long post once detailing a bunch of players...

6th man can have a max salary from 15-18k. But that doesn't mean that you can't train him once his salary is above this. You can still train him and his skills will still pop up but it will be ridiculously slow, it will probably take your life time to have a pop in one single skill :P (sarcasm here).

Just one warning: remember that the salary is affected mostly by the main skills in a player's role, while the training cap is affected by all skills.
So, that means that a very balanced player will hit his cap much sooner than expected. Samurai_Tungi gave you the consensus cap for a 6th man potential player, which is 15k-18k, but the cap may be hit even at 12k if you rotate his training over all skills, for example to turn him into a SF.
