First of all, that's just disrespectful to Coco, who is one of the most knowledgeable guys in this game. His club team is in the NBBA, has won the NBBA and the national tournament, oh, and by the way, he's been playing this game for 18 seasons. This is your third. So to say that you could do a better job "in your sleep" and that he "obviously does not know how to utilize the talent he has" and "did a horrible recruiting job" is not only shortsighted and inaccurate, but also extremely disrespectful to one of our country's top managers. Also, looking at the players on your roster, I would say you don't have a great eye for talent and looking at your team's ratings, I would say you don't have a great understanding of how to coach a top-level team, so I find it hard to believe you think you would be doing a better job.

Also, you seem to be under the impression that the USA players are talented enough to beat anyone, and Coco is simply mismanaging them. How do you know the other countries don't have more talented players, and Coco is doing the best with what he has but he just doesn't have enough to work with? Do you have specific knowledge of the US players' skills, relative to those of their opponents'? If so, please share them. I'm sure the USA community would appreciate such information.

But rather than discussing your relative qualifications, let's look at each of the games:

Ceska Rep. @ USA (20291)
USA puts up equal or better ratings in every area except outside scoring, strong (high) vs. proficient (low). Better inside scoring and perimeter defense, though, and since both teams were running inside offenses than the inside scoring should have counted for a lot more. I don't think you can put this one on the manager.

China @ USA (20293)
China is one of the top teams in the world, and they put up a significantly higher offensive ratings, both inside and outside. They also had better defense and rebounding, but worse offensive flow. These ratings are understandable if you see China's NT guards who have been on the transfer list. They have comparatively low passing, but extremely high JS/HA/DR/IS, boosting their offense. China just has better players than the US right now, and so I don't see what you expect Coco or any other manager to have done to overcome that difference.

USA @ Italy (20297)
Italy gets a significant advantage in outside scoring and a slight advantage in inside scoring, but USA far surpasses them defensively, rebounding, and in offensive flow. Italy doesn't win this if the USA players don't inexplicably commit more than twice as many fouls, resulting in Italy shooting 42 free throws, most of them off of non-shooting fouls. Both USA point guards fouled out in this game, and we still had several chances to tie this at the end. Please explain how Coco is at fault when the USA team commits an astonishing number of fouls, despite being the significantly better defensive team by the ratings.

Summary:

USA NT had two games with better ratings than the opponent, which we lost. That's part of the game, the better team doesn't always win. Like in real life, anything can happen in any one game, there's a certain stochastic element and the NT has been to some extent unlucky in those two games. In one game, we got outmatched by a superior opponent; that happens to everyone. It doesn't make you a bad coach just because you got beaten by superior talent.

Obviously, we can discuss how those ratings could be misleading due to specific player matchups (such as how the USA may have had a better rebounding rating against Italy because of the matchup at SF, while Italy's PF and C were better rebounders than their American counterparts), and we're forced to talk in generalities because we don't know every player's skill set. Still, I hope this helps you see why your initial conclusions about the state of the USA NT were fallacious and unwarranted.

I request that you take any one of the games that the USA NT has lost this year, write up an analysis of it and how you would have don't it differently.

Don't just pipe up with meaningless things like being able to do it "better in your sleep" and how Coco doesn't "know how to utilize the talent" we have. Give me some specifics. If you really think you're up to the job, man up and let us see what you'd do.

If you don't have the guts or the ability to produce a post like this, I suggest you sit down.

I'll give you a bit of an explanation on why run and gun and full court press wouldn't work on a team like China. As Jon said earlier, China has high handling on their guards, so they would have little trouble breaking the press, and if a team can consistently break the press, they will score at a very high rate. Run and gun may have been slightly effective, but at the time of the game, our best guard Joe Bronson had low game shape and would have been a poor option to play. Based on the game shape that we had, look inside was our best option.

I believe that with any other tactics besides look inside and man to man, we would have lost the game by a lot more. China was just a better team, and you have to give them credit for that.
