You can change your ticket prices and people are willing to pay more for tickets the higher your level.

OK, this makes sense. But does that mean that for a new team like mine, with a teensy stadium which will have less than 6000 seats (just joined the game less than a couple weeks ago), that I'd be better off staying in Div V (assuming I actually have a chance to win promotion) where next season I'm more likely to be a winning team and fill my stadium as I build it further as opposed to promoting and being a doormat, losing fans because I'm a losing team, and getting relegated at the end of the season because my stadium is so small I can't afford to upgrade my team enough to compete? (OK, yeah, that's a mouthful. Sorry)

Wll good starting point of a D4 arena is between 7000 and 8000 seats. That's where you should target. Once you can get that, you can compete in a D4 League. right now you need to worry about getting to that 7000 seat mark and getting some trainees.

Sorry to say (Sorry to Tornado Turtles too: This is from my mentor) But your roster looks almost like a total disaster. Why the German 5k SF? Only ones decent is Ian Adams and Richard Alderman, which I assume is your main trainee right? Let's try and do something. First thing's first.....

1. Fire all the 30+ yr olds with less than 6k salary. They won't make it in D4. Pierre Aigle, gone. Keep the German guy for Leadership purposes.

2. Try to sell those 2 18 yr olds you got. Yes, they're young, trainable, but would make it as a Starter in D5 and 4, maybe a servicable backup in D3. List them at $1. If they don't sell, cut em.

3. Keep these guys
Nate Pina
Willibald Röhe
Richard Alderman
Ian Adams
Jamie Jamison

4. Go out there on the TL and get a trainee of P.Allstar-MVP caliber. Try to go less than 200k on em. and make it a PF/C, to train with Alderman. Train him and the new trainee you got. Then invest time after time after time in your arena. Once you assume you can promote in a given season, go to the TL and get a couple of 12-15k guard and SF with the skillsets of these or somewhat close:

Guard
JS 10-12
JR 9-11
OD 11-14*
HA 9-11
DR 9-12
PA 8-11*
IS 6-8 (if you like a inside guard too)
ID 4-7*
REB 5-6*
SB4-7

SF
JS 9-11*
JR 8-10
OD 11-12*
HA 7-9
DR 8-10*
PA 6-8*
IS 8-10
ID 9-11*
REB 8-10*
SB Don't Matter
Hopefully these are not that hard to buy......as I've had a hard time searching for guards, that's why there's an asterisk in the skill/s Same with the SF

keep it simple, always promote if you get the chance, but if you spend 2 or 3 seasons in div5 getting sorted its not a big issue in the long run.

Thanks for all the information, man. I think it might be a little hard to execute in the position I'm in now since, as a new owner, I don't have the funds to pursue the level of talent you're suggesting without completely ignoring my Arena and I'm not quite comfortable with that much of an all-in strategy based on a single player (I DEFINITELY couldn't afford two!).

I believe you when you say that the older guys I recruited won't cut it in Div IV, but at this point I'm still trying to make it through Div V and I figure they may be good enough for a couple seasons after which hopefully I'll promote and I can cut them or sell them (probably to another Div V team) if they're still serviceable. I was planning to try to build my arena, hopefully up to that 7000-8000 capacity you mention, within that time frame. I'm nowhere close now (<5500).

Interestingly, I had the same players targeted to keep on the roster as you mentioned, although Pina was kind of a close call for me vs. McClain. I messed up and picked up two foreign C's but Aigle only cost me $5k and has done well so far. He's one of those that I plan to sell if I ever get to promote. In the meantime, I just have to work on the training aspect of it, balancing 3 guys.

It's interesting that you mention "Leadership"--is there a "Leadership" factor built into the game? I must have missed it in the Game Manual.

Anyway, your input is very much appreciated, especially since you put so much time into it. Thanks a bunch!

Yeah, this is kind of where I was at....if I don't promote (much more likely scenario) then that's just fine.....I plan to use next season to build my Arena and then I might have the cash to recruit stronger players that will have more longevity on my roster. I just wasn't sure if it was advantageous to promote with a small arena since the main advantage seems to be attendance potential, but it sounds like the general consensus is that the impact on attendance is so great that it's always worth it. I suppose I can just adjust the ticket prices much higher in IV in order to compensate for the lack of capacity.

Definitely. One thing you want to do is to spend more on arena upgrades than you do on bringing in new players. I would suggest that when you do buy players, don't worry as much about age as long as they're 31 or younger and cheap. What you want to do is ensure that they have good defensive skills and good secondary skills. Guys with good secondary skills and around 8-10k salaries should be sufficient to be the framework of your team while you're building your trainees.

When you get your arena up to a good size and are promoting, you should be able at that point to figure out what type of players you'll need to fit in and have more financial infrastructure to get them and support the salary.

Lower than perennial all star can play in IV. Heck, one of the MVP candidates in out league year in and year out is a star potential guy. If you can get better cheaply, of course, do so, but there's no need to rush into training premium youth when the team's not ready to support what they'll become.
