basically what my mentor said. I hink Ima train STA during Playoffs, cause I can't afford to have a player deteriorate during the 4th qtr. It would also be helpful in D4. Well, for me the sweet spot in GS is 55-75 minutes a week. Well, to me GS counts more than STA.......

Think of it like this: A player has an imaginary skill level of 10. He has inept gameshape. This means that his skill decreases prior to the game, so he enters the arena reduced to... let's just say 7. Now he also has Awful(3) stamina. He will be able to play the beginning of the game with the skill at 7, but towards the end of the game at a certain point which is determined by his stamina it will begin to decrease as he gets tired so he may end up playign the 4th quarter reduced to 5.

These numbers mean absolutely nothing, just an example. Gameshape has no effect on WHEN stamina will start to hinder a player, only how low the abilities already are.

Edit: Also, this thread is very helpful for new players. I still refer to it and I've been playing this game for years.

And just to add to the already solid answer, in order to maintain game shape try to get guys 48-75 minutes per week. If you're a bit under or over once in a while it should average out but don't play guys 85-120 minutes a week. Barring an injury it's really inexcusable to have a guy with anything below respectable game shape in the middle of the season, with the possible exception of the week after the all star break. After week 2 most of your guys should have strong or proficient game shape. Also, stamina is very important but if it gets too high (strong-proficient-prominent) then it might hurt your rotation as those guys will not often come out of games. Aim for mediocre-respectable stamina if possible.

I wish there were pigmen. You get a few of these pigmen walking around I'm looking a whole lot better. Then if somebody wants to fix me up at least they could say, Hey he's no pig-man!
