Calgary Spitfires. Ranked right around 6,000 in the World Rankings, despite spending 5 seasons buried in Canada's d.3

He's a cool guy, always willing to talk to new players and offer some advice, and despite being #2 in the overall rankings he's without a doubt going to win our league and a long deserved promotion this season.

They also handed me my first loss this week. And haven't lost a game all season.

Division III Team of the Week!

This week I have chose the Calgary Spitfires(33358). They are in their 6th season of division III. Here is my interview with them.

Mod-Bballin: Team is looking good this season. What do you think has been the key to your success?
RA_Blaze: Patience. Coming into D.III seasons ago, I was looking for instant gratification, and after seeing stronger teams promote ahead of me, I have learned to be patient with the process and learn to develop my assets better. I have had the same trainees for a while, and most of my success is due to them taking another leap and becoming consistent performers and leading my team.

MB: This is your 6th season in the very same league in division III. When do you think you'll finally promote? Do you think you're ready?
RA: I'm hoping this season, while it could be argued I am the favorite to promote in the division right now, I am still unsure. My main competitor is MBCT who has been in the Division nearly as long as me, and has always been a very good manager. He beat me in our match-up this season for my only loss, but has since sold/is selling some of his top players. He should have a good chunk of change when hes ready, while my savings are looking pretty low. Am I ready? Most definitely! I need to shore up my team and bring in a few bigger salary guys. This might be my 25 year old trainee's last year of training, and they are on track for another decent salary pop and should look pretty good on my D.II team

MB: Who is your favourite BB player on your team right now? Ever?
RA: Frank Holtz (19313538) . He was my first ever real scouted draft pick and trainee. I selected him as a 19 year old 6'8 SF with the 8th pick. I didn't really like his skills at first, but he had ID and OD, and I knew that he wouldn't foul out. I was very noobie at the game at the time, and made a lot of mistakes with him, but now at 25 he is starting to take shape and put up some very good games. I imagine that hes kind of like a bigger Dwyane Wade.

MB: Any tips for the new managers out there?
RA: I cannot stress enough the importance of Game Shape and Enthusiasm. These two variables will dictate whether you win or lose in a lot of match-ups. If you need a hand with how to manage these things, check out the FAQ or PM Mod-Bballin nearly 900 times per day with lots of questions(Editors Note: Don't.).

MB: Whats your favourite part of BB?
RA: I love watching the games live. The actual engine that runs the game is very entertaining for a basketball junkie like myself. I will often watch 3-4 games on BB in different tabs while League Pass is on the TV a few feet away.

MB: Who is your favourite Canadian BB manager, based on anything you want to base it on?
RA: I can't really say I have a favourite manager, and I'm not egotistical enough to say myself. I guess anyone past and present who has been involved in stuff the the Canadian teams, seems like a lot of work and responsibility, and I respect that. A lot of my former III.9ers like TigerUnderGlass (Serenity Now!) and Coach Coach (Fundamentally Sound) are both BB legends in their own right. And current III.9ers like Ib (Black Tigers), The Raven and Vineham who have helped keep the III.9 forums active this season.

MB: What is your ultimate goal in BB?
RA: I guess Naismith eventually. Maybe final 4 in the cup? B3? I don't know. I'd like to see my team continue to develop and see where that takes me.

MB: Ever been skydiving? If so, how was it? If not, would you want to?
RA: Never. If I wanted to be strapped to some dude and piss myself, I'm sure I could find a better place for that downtown.

Division II Team of the Week!

This weeks Team of the Week is 蝴蝶Supreme(33256) who are in their first season in division II.

Mod-Bballin: You have only one loss this season and sit atop your conference in your first ever season in division II. What can you blame for your success?
Kumiko: I came into divII well prepared and with realistic expectations. I was aiming for 4th place or better and the season has been a welcome surprise.

Hard work gets you continued success as dumb luck runs out sooner or later.

MB: You have had stellar success in the cup the past three seasons. This season you have drawn another bot and are heading into the round of 64 for the 4th straight season. Do you blame the luck of the draw, your team strength, or a bit of both?
KU: Obviously you can't get this far without a little bit of luck. Any team can draw a top Naismith opponent, or a sneaky divII or divIII team that splurges on players and crunches you.

That being said, I do what I can. Manage enthusiasm well, scout opponents thoroughly, and I've beat some strong teams with home court and/or patient small/big switch tactic.

MB: What is your goal for this season, in the cup, in your league and with your training(if any)?
KU: For cup, get as far as I can. I might even crunch late in the year to advance further than I have before.

For league, with the money I am earning, I am tempted to make a run in the playoffs but am leery of the path HTG took and the attendance hit he is taking this year. I might just get a few more wins to guarantee 4th and sell a bunch of players (semi-tank) in preparation for a run next year. We'll see.

For training, Arnot/Zavod/Morales will continue to get training. Arnot is almost done so I have a choice next year for a new trainee. I am almost set on getting a big, and training PF/C skills for once after doing PG for so long. Zavod and Morales can use the pops on IS/ID for LI. But that would mean losing a bunch of games...

MB: During your first season of division II, you are also experiencing your first season as Canadas U21 manager. How has it been so far? Everything you expected, nothing like you predicted? Fun? Easy, hard?
KU: The transition into running a U21 squad as been aided by the games being so easy so far. A lot more time has gone into tracking players, helping newer managers with the intricacies of training, and formulating what kind of team we can have in the coming years.

It is a responsibility I don't take lightly, and I hope to work with the Canadian community to build a stronger training focus and stronger U21 team going forward.

MB: How many other female managers do you know about?
KU: Four.

MB: Who is your favourite BB player on your team right now? Ever?
KU: Arnot(22374210). Started on my team from my initial log on. Heong seems to be the player performing the best right now for $/rating.

MB: Any tips for the new managers out there?
KU: Read the manual. Read it again. Get a mentor. Ask advice from several people. Use the forum. Sign up for the offsite forum. Find a team you admire, look at their history (games, transfer history, team history, arena) and dig into what helped make them a success.

MB: Whats your favourite part of BB?
KU: Training updates Friday morning, the clock counting down to 00:00 before a game, and buzzerbeaters to win a game.(Editors Note: Doesn't understand the difference between singular and plural.)

MB: Who is your favourite Canadian BB manager, based on anything you want to base it on?
KU:RiP (based on dominance)

MB: What is your ultimate goal in BB?
KU:Win Naismith. Win Canada Tournament. Win BBB.

MB: Ever been skydiving? If so, how was it? If not, would you want to?
KU: New Zealand over Queenstown. Breathtaking.

Division I Team of the Week!

This weeks Team of the Week is Philosopher Kings(24916) who are in their 14th season in Naismith.

Mod-Bballin: Undefeated thus far in the league, with your early cup exit, is this the season you finally finish undefeated?
RiP: Hopefully.

MB: The team is doing wonderfully in the BuzzerBeaters Best tournament. You are sitting 6-0 in the preliminary round and in your teams history you have won 27 of your 30 preliminary round games, with all 3 losses coming in the same season. Thats 3 undefeated seasons, luck of the draw or team strength?
RiP: Mostly team strength, though I suppose I have been lucky to avoid drawing top teams on their court. Also, my team wasn't undefeated last season; they went 7-1.(Editors Note: Gotta fire the journalist!)

MB: Your team looks poised to make, yet another deep B3 run, how do you like your chances this season?
RiP: I think my chances of winning are as good as they've ever been. That doesn't mean much when you consider the unpredictable nature of the game engine and the many elite teams competing in the tournament.

MB: Who is your favourite BB player on your team right now? Ever?
RiP: Essa for both.

MB: Any tips for the new managers out there?
RiP: Come up with a long term plan and stick to it.

MB: Whats your favourite part of BB?
RiP: Developing players.

MB: Who is your favourite Canadian BB manager, based on anything you want to base it on?
RiP: I don't have one.

MB: What is your ultimate goal in BB?
RiP: To win the B3 of course.

MB: Ever been skydiving? If so, how was it? If not, would you want to?
RiP: I have not been skydiving but would definitely do it if the opportunity arose.

Division II Team of the Week!

Kumikos Team Reins Supreme!

An awesome first half set up 蝴蝶Supreme for their big win, as the the second half was won by TSV die Zweite. In the end Kumiko and her team of players whos names I have to keep switching tabs to type beat TSV die Zweite by 10 points, 112-102(55453380). With 25 points and 16 rebounds, player of the game was undoubtedly, Huang Daojiang(11816467) who earned his fair share of fried rice in this one! Next game is a league game against the #5 ranked Fundamentally Sound!

Division I Team of the Week!

Kings Banish Augustina 75ers
RiPs squad ran out to an early 7 point 1st quarter lead, but by the 4th quarter they found themselves trailing by 2. Some clutch shooting and rebounding gave this team another PL victory, 78-70(55442244). Gerry Stavridis(14641174) was the top point getter as he is in top form. Scorng 27 points, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists, got his team the victory even if it was to the tune of 11 for 26 shooting. The Kings find themselves at home to World Alliance in their league game tomorrow night!
