Well, a good reason to do it is to see whether the change causes GE failures, bugs or super-strange results (like 50 Blocks a game or such), so it´s not completely useless from a Beta-Testing point of view.

If people doesn´t want to give it a game outcome test (as many will do in the offseason, btw), that´s another part of the story and I agree that testing in a PL would actually widen the amount of experience in the community. Then again, PL users would probably benefit from that testing opportunity, and one of the major principles in Buzzerbeater is that "paying" won´t make you any more likely to win. So there is some credibility in the approach not to run it in the PL for now.

From a user point of view none of that is applicable. If their update is buggy that should be addressed in a test environment. If they are unsure of the impact of the change thats also test environment.

You can never fully beta-test user behaviour.

Many GE changes have previously been tested in PL games. I therefore don't believe this is the reason.

C´mon. Besides that I don´t say that this is the true reason for the BBs doing it (as I´m sure it is not), it´s a well known fact among all software and even product managers that the only way to REALLY make something work is to give it to the customer and see how he gets it broke.

You can do a 99% reliability test, but there´s so many different options, configurations, and even "stupid" behaviour possibilities in even using an HOURGLASS that even if you think you have everthing covered the next day Neil Armstrong calls and tells you that for some strange and unexplainable reason it doesn´t work ...

Going live in an core part of any system with a changed something is always a risk, and if you get a "larger" beta test without the chance of anything breaking apart, you take it. And it´s only fair to the users - everybody gets a glimpse of what´s going to happen and can adjust.

This time, it´s even more fair, as the supporters don´t get a key advantage. Whatever you do, it´s wrong anyways...
