Well it's really just the flushing the team and giving you a brand new team of scrubs while retaining the old team's record that threw me off. I've never seen another game do that. Either you take over the old team exactly as it was mid-season, or they make you wait until the start of a new season to take over.

And with the tutoring thing, I'm guessing you're talking about the mentor thread? I looked at that, but wasn't 100% certain if it was still maintained and valid. This forum system is a little weird to me and it's hard to see what threads are current and what aren't. But if that mentor list is still accurate and up-to-date, I guess I could message someone on it.

i think it's not a bad thing, going down this season in a "easy" league...

In next season, you can built your team at better, train some good young player, and extend your stadium because more tickets= more money every home game.

Don't mind if you get relegated -- it will allow you to be more competitive at the new level.

Examine the rosters of your opponents in your new or current league. Judge the players by salary and age. This gives you a bit of a glimpse of the level of your competition.

Compare your players to what is available to you cheaply on the transfer list. You will find it is easy to improve your team at first. Be aware that after about age 32 the players' skills start to decline. You can easily build your team one position at a time. People grossly overpay for youth (18-21 or 18-22 or so) on the transfer list, so you're not likely to find any bargains in that price range. If there are no players available at a decent price, it is a good time to invest in your arena.

I just started playing and got my team at what appears to be the end of the season. My newly-founded team of scrubs played one regulation game, losing 112-63.

Now I'm suddenly in a relegation series I guess which I probably have no chance of winning. Game 1, I lost 85-58, despite doing a perfect prediction in both tactics areas.

I'm just wondering if this is a normal start for this game... to be throw into the game and promptly booted from your level without being able to do anything.

It seems like an odd design choice to force new players to deal with another team's misfortune without having any of the players that causes the situation, but instead be given garbage players who couldn't win if their lives depended on it.

Also the game's pretty confusing to be able to adjust and figure out how to make a team that can compete that quickly since you're essentially building from scratch (not to mention, I wasn't allowed to sign players for the first few days anyway).

Anyone understand the thought process behind this sort of setup?

I underwent the same thing years ago when I started. Plopped right into a DIV season with over half the season gone. Needless to say, I was discouraged, but actually thought I could win my relegation tourney if I could just climb out of last place, so I CT'd my final league game to no avail, not realizing that Game Shape was actually a thing I needed to keep track of (I was playing my best players 120+ minutes per week). I then wrote a fairly heated message wondering how that could have happened and was pretty upset. What followed was an incredibly helpful series of messages with good advice and encouraging me to stay on.

That draft, I got my franchise player (turns 32 at the end of this season).
The next season, I won my DV easily while training and building my arena.
Then a couple seasons in DIV, followed by a long time in DIII, and now I've been in DII for about a year IRL.

So yep... this is normal. Best of luck in the upcoming draft!
