Well, playing the tie-breaker would give him 3 games in a BB week (saturday, sunday, thursday if he gets a friendly), so he'd have the same possibility to train guys as during a normal regular season week. Still more than those who don't play at all, or have just the friendly, but in all reality his training ability isn't more than what he has during the RS.
