i think you shouldn't be punished, for an opponent who played bad. You do the stuff which was necessary to get a sure win, why risk your stars there.
Neglecting those types of games is not a punishment but just making it the right way it is.
In the real-world, one that will win against a better team will get more fan's support, but losing to that team will cause less affect.
When winning a "lesser" team, the fans "will go nuts" and lose some faith on the team, but will just not care about winning those lesser teams.
It is all known. As well as why some will not want it to be as it is in the real-world...
