I am not a terribly talented analyst of the engine. My team is rather driven by instinct - and me threatening them to play well...

I am a little conservative about too high driving. These DR12/HA10 monsters look nice but I sure think they are overrated. You definetely need DR for increasing your shots. And a solid base of any skill is certainly key to a good player. I think 5-8 is fine.

Let's look at passing. Passing as well in my eyes must have an impact on shots taken and FG%. A good passer has an alternative to taking a shot. He can pass instead of shooting when his estimation of a shot opportunity goes too low. One who cannot pass must take every shot.

Conclusion from that (Passing) (example): A player who would usually take 20 shots with a FG% 50 will take 10 additional shots he wouldn't take if he could pass. He scores only 20% of these additional 10.

This will lead to 12/30 (made/attempted) instead of 10/20. Very simplistic and with dull numbers but something I could understand.

Thats exactly my conclusion. Thats why i was whining that we cant train our C's passing. Also i agree that DR at least is way over rated, especially to my Greek friends

Glad to hear that.

Overall I think that 20-25% of training efforts should go to strengthening secondaries. Coming back to my best FG% player (#1 in all Germany II. division level): he is nowhere near in wage to the best players of competing teams. But being a Centre he has an average of 5 in Big Men Skills.

Edit: traing or buying secondaries works. My Trainees have usually balanced skills at 18.

The problem is, that C with very high IS and low DR will have like 100% from the field, but in majority it will be like max. 10/10 as he won't be able to make the right opportunities for himself and he will rely on his teammates passes. With better DR (or HA as JosefKa states in his thread) he will have far more attempts.

Well me and Pallu we have tried to see how many shots per minute our big men are getting, and looks like that DR it doesnt have anything to do with that. Actually we saw that our players with higher JS and XP, they where shooting more per min than those with higher DR. As i said b4, our sample is very small, and we want to investigate it more

Hi,

I agree with Pallu that a minimum level of 5-8 for secondary skills must be good for any player (unless you want to create a Rodman or a Wallace).

Looking at the official instructions I've seen that the skill "passing" is broader than I thought. It is obviously related to passing the ball, but it is also related to receiving assists. Thefore, I think it must be a pretty important skill for a center (especially if you have good passers in the team and play inside tactics). Furthermore, it will help my team reducing the number of turnovers (the 16 on average that I currently have are ridiculous...), so I will train a bit my two big men next season on passing the ball.

Jordi
