Have to say I was kinda surprised (in the negative sense) how bad the defensive ratings were for our conference. I guess maybe I haven't mentally adjusted from II to III all the way, and it's match day #1 and all, but there were a lot of mediocres and awfuls, and I really didn't expect many based on the end-of-season numbers everyone put up last year. Is this a "punt your first four games" league and I missed the memo?

lol I don't think so not for most that have been here anyways but alot may depend on cup matchups and schedule matchups. Depending on my opponent I typically TIE first game and again depending on the matchup may or may not start all my starters with my future schedule in mind. I think it is more strategy then "packing it in" for the first four.

I'm looking forward to being in a league that uses the forum for once...I wasn't expecting to make it out of league IV last season, so I don't think I'm quite ready to compete at this level, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Game 1 recaps

No Potential at Crank
With 55 three pt shots taken in this game what fan didn't enjoy the show. Both teams were firing away and this first game proved to be an exciting battle between both PG's. Beckman for NP had 36 and Pettito for Crank had 33. what a show they put on. In the end it came down to a superior 4th quarter by the NP gang and they stole one from Crank in their own arena 101-99.

I was bummbed by that, I had to leave around the 4th quarter and I was winning 79-68, come back thinking I probably got this, only to find out I lost by 2.

We do use this forum quite a bit. We typically get close to hitting 500 posts for a season. Last season was not near what we usually do. Hopefully Goats will continue to come back here and keep our Hollinger game scores updated. He has some amazing stats.

Yeah, there's definitely a no-enthusiasm/no-GS component to the poor ratings that start each season. And new season ratings suffer in comparison to previous season playoff ratings too because in the playoffs people are more likely to have their best 5 starting, while during the regular season if 3 of their best 5 are trainees, you might not see more than 1/3 starting any given league game. So what's in recent memory (whatever people put up in the playoffs) tends to look a lot better than the first games of the new season.

I know I'm always bummed when I see the ratings from my first game each new season :)

I ran into some small complications with my program that was easily resolved once I took a break and realized where the problem was residing. I'll be going through and compiling the first game statistics and post the rankings possibly later tonight if all goes well (meaning I have nothing to do when I get home from work).

No prob, Bob! Damn, IV.63 is dead, lol. I posted my rankings yesterday fo them ... still no chatter.

I was surprised by this weeks rankings. I've had Clay Chow and Mario Mannu start out the season strong before but that was just one guy each season for the first game. I've hardly ever had more than 1 or 2 players record a performance that achieved a Z-Score > 3.00 for a given game but the very first week of Season 15 in III.4 and we already have 3 players score the Legendary mark. Those scores will drop over the course of the season but it won't be by much and they'll each still receive their maximum payout on the points awarded for the first game. I've never had more than 1 player score the maximum on the first game and Saturday III.4 had 3. Wowsers.

I am going to go ahead and make a hypothesis that these three top performers are going to have these games recorded in the Top 20 Performances of Season 15 by the end of the season.

FYI: I've gone through Season 12 and Season 13 now. I did some compiling of the Top 20 games for each of those seasons as well and I've gotta say, Season 13 was not looking so hot. Season 12's Top 20 Performances all consisted of games that registered above +3.00 on the Normal Bell Curve for players that accumulated at least 16 minutes of game action. Season 13 only had 11 players register above +3.00 on the NBC. I'll have to go back through Season 14's to see where the lowest Z-Score was at for the Top 20 Performances but I don't think Season 14 had any less than 16 that scored above the +3.00 threshold.

Speaking of Mannu, who wants to buy a former III.4 MVP?
