The difference is, an Englishman didn't go to Brazil and invent futbol, HOWEVER Naismith created and developed basketball in the United States.

Therefore it is an American sport created by a Canadian-born US Citizen ;) He knew he couldn't develop a sport that didn't involve skating and pucks in Canada...

So a long story short, Naismith fled Canada to create the game of basketball in a more suitable place.
